How to read the cards
Each card shows what one platform takes in a single post.
- Text is the most characters the post may have. Shorter usually does better: most people read the first two lines.
- Hashtags is the most a post may carry. Three to five that fit the post beat thirty that do not.
- Shapes are the picture shapes the feed shows without cutting. The pixel size next to each is a good size to export at, so the picture stays sharp.
- Links in the text says if a link can be tapped. On Instagram and TikTok it cannot, so people put it in the bio.
Which picture shape to pick
When you post the same picture in many places, 4:5 is the safest choice. It fills the most space in the Instagram and Facebook feeds, and the platforms that want a wider shape crop it with little lost. Use 9:16 for stories, reels and TikTok, and 1.91:1 or 16:9 when the picture goes next to a link.
Keep faces and words away from the edges. A picture shown in another shape loses its edges first.
FAQ
What is the best image size for Instagram?
1080 × 1350 pixels, which is 4:5. It takes the most room in the feed. A square 1080 × 1080 works too, and stories and reels are 1080 × 1920.
How long can a video be?
It depends on the platform: Instagram takes up to 15 minutes, TikTok up to 10 minutes, X up to 20 minutes and Facebook up to 4 hours. The cards above list each one.
Why can I not tap a link in my Instagram caption?
Instagram does not make links in captions clickable. Put the link in your bio, or in a link in bio page that lists several links.
Are these the official limits?
They are the limits Postfjord checks before it sends a post, set from each platform's own rules for posting through their apps. Platforms change them now and then, and we update this page when they do.
