How to add a Book button to Instagram, and where it should lead

Three ways to put a Book button on Instagram (the Book now action button, a booking link in your bio and a DM that sends the link), plus the page it should open and how to count the bookings a post brings in.

A Postfjord link in bio page for Sunrise Yoga on a phone, with a class schedule, a first class offer and a signup form, beside the taps on each button.

Someone watches your reel, likes the haircut, and wants one. The next ten seconds decide whether they book. They look at your profile for a way in. If they find a Book button, a price and a free time, you get the appointment. If they find a home page that loads slowly and a phone number, most of them scroll on.

There are three ways to put a Book button on Instagram:

  1. The Book now action button on a business profile. It sits under your bio and opens your booking system.
  2. A booking link in your bio. Instagram lets you add up to five links, and one of them can say "Book".
  3. A DM that sends the link. Someone comments or writes BOOK, and gets the booking link in their messages.

Most small businesses use all three. The part most skip comes after the tap: the page the button opens. This post covers the three buttons, then that page, then how to see which posts led to bookings. The example is a made up hair salon in Austin, Texas, called Juniper Hair, where a first cut costs $65.

1. The Book now action button

An action button is a button on a business profile that opens a partner's booking, reservation or ordering page. Instagram lists three kinds: Book now for appointments, Reserve for restaurant tables and Order food for delivery and takeout (Instagram Help Center, About action buttons, checked September 28, 2026).

To add one, from Instagram's help page (checked September 28, 2026):

  1. Go to your business account on Instagram.
  2. Tap Edit profile.
  3. Below Public business information, tap Action buttons.
  4. Pick the button you want and connect it to your booking service.
  5. Tap Done.

Three things to know before you start.

You need an account with a partner. Instagram only offers the button through a set list of booking systems, and you must already have an account with one of them. For Book now, the list includes Acuity Scheduling, Appointments by Square, Booksy, Fresha, GlossGenius, Setmore, StyleSeat, Vagaro and 14 more (Instagram Help Center, action button partners, checked September 28, 2026). Calendly and Mindbody were not on that list when we checked. If your system is not there, skip to the link in bio.

You get one button. Only one action button shows on a profile at a time. A salon picks Book now. A café that takes reservations and delivery orders has to choose.

It may not be there yet. Instagram says the feature is being introduced gradually. If you do not see Action buttons under Edit profile, check that the account is a business or creator account, then use the next two ways until it appears.

The action button is the shortest path: two taps and they are in your calendar. It also skips everything a new customer wants to know first. More on that below.

Every Instagram profile can hold up to five links, added under Edit profile, Links (Instagram Help Center, checked September 28, 2026). You can give each one a title, and the title is what people read.

A few rules for the booking link:

If you have more than five things to link to, or you want one address you can also print, use a link in bio page. Our post on what to put in your link in bio has six worked examples.

The third way works in the comments and messages, where people already talk to you. Someone comments BOOK under a post, and gets the booking link in their DMs within seconds. It also answers the question you get most: "How do I book?"

In Postfjord, you set it up once under Automation:

  1. Connect your Instagram account under Channels, if you have not.
  2. Open Automation and press New automation.
  3. Press Comment to DM for comments under a post, or Keyword reply for people who write BOOK in a DM.
  4. Under Keywords, type book and press Enter. Matching ignores case, so "Book!" works too.
  5. In The DM with your link, paste your booking link. Turn on Show the link as a button and write "Book a first cut" as the button text.
  6. Press Save automation, then test it from another account.

In a caption, write the step plainly: "Comment BOOK and I'll DM you the link, first cuts are $65." The automation help page has every option, and How comment-to-DM works explains why the first DM asks a question with a button.

For flyers and the mirror at your station, the Link or QR code automation gives you a link like ig.me/m/juniperhair?ref=book and a QR code. Scanning it opens a chat with you and sends the booking link. Instagram needs at least one conversation starter for that, which you set under Chat menu.

Where the button should lead

Here is the part most guides stop before. All three buttons open a page. Which page decides whether the tap turns into a booking.

Nearly everyone who taps is on a phone. Pew Research Center found that 91% of US adults own a smartphone in its 2025 survey of 5,022 adults (Pew Research Center, Mobile Fact Sheet, checked September 28, 2026).

So the page has a small screen and a thumb to work with. A booking form is the right page for someone who already knows you. For someone who saw one reel, it asks for a name and a card before it has answered what they want to know.

A new customer wants four things before they book:

  1. The price. "First cut, $65, including wash and style."
  2. When they can come. "Tuesday to Saturday, 9 AM to 7 PM. Most weeks have evening slots."
  3. What happens. "We start with 10 minutes of talking about what you want. Plan on an hour."
  4. One button. "Book a first cut." Nothing else competes with it.

Put that on one short page, and let the button on the page open your booking form. The customer taps twice instead of once, and arrives at the form knowing the price and the time it takes.

In Postfjord, that page is a landing page at your own address on postfjord.page, for example juniperhair.postfjord.page/first-cut. Landing pages are part of email and open to a few workspaces during early access. Once they are open for yours:

  1. Go to Email, then Landing pages, and press New page.
  2. Pick a template, like the class or the intro offer, and press Use this template.
  3. Replace every word in [brackets] with your own facts: the price, your hours, what a client said. The page cannot go live while one is left, so no placeholder price ends up online.
  4. Put your booking link on the main button.
  5. Press Publish.

Then use that page address everywhere: in the bio link, in the BOOK automation and on the printed QR code. Under Page you get a QR code for it, as a PNG or SVG. The landing pages feature page shows the templates.

The action button is the exception. It opens your booking partner directly, so it cannot lead to your own page. Keep it for people who already know you, and send new people through the bio link and the DM.

Count bookings back to the post

A Book button is worth keeping if it brings bookings, and you can only tell if you count them. Likes will not tell you.

Postfjord counts bookings once you connect the system people book with, under Settings, Apps, Count your bookings:

After that, when someone taps the link in your BOOK automation and books within a week, Postfjord counts the booking for that automation and gives the person the tag Booked. With Acuity and the other systems, the person also needs to be a contact with the email address they booked with. Open Automation to see Bookings on each one. A booking link on a landing page counts too, on the page's Numbers tab, with Calendly or your own address when your system passes on the link's tags. Acuity does not pass them on, so there those bookings show in the month's total only. The bookings help page has the details.

With the counts in front of you, compare. If the reel with "Comment BOOK" brought four bookings and the one with "link in bio" brought none, you know which caption to write next week.

A setup you can do this afternoon

For Juniper Hair, the setup is six steps:

  1. Add the Book now action button, if Juniper's booking system is on Instagram's partner list.
  2. Make a landing page for the first cut: price, hours, what happens, one button.
  3. Put that page as the first bio link, titled "Book a first cut, $65".
  4. Build a BOOK automation for comments and DMs that sends the same page.
  5. Print the QR code on a card at the front desk.
  6. Connect the booking system, and look at Bookings after two weeks.

If you run a salon, the salons and beauty page shows how the rest of Postfjord fits a chair that should stay full. For a studio or gym, the gyms and studios page does the same for classes.

FAQ

How do I add a Book now button to my Instagram profile?

Tap Edit profile, then Action buttons under Public business information, pick Book now and connect your booking service. You need a business or creator account and an account with one of Instagram's booking partners.

Why can I not see the action button option on Instagram?

Instagram says action buttons are being introduced gradually, so some accounts do not have them yet. They are only for business and creator accounts. Check the account type under your settings, and use a booking link in your bio until the option shows up.

Can I use Calendly for the Instagram Book now button?

Calendly was not on Instagram's list of Book now partners when we checked on September 28, 2026. Put your Calendly link in your bio instead, or send it in a DM when someone writes BOOK. Postfjord counts Calendly bookings from those links.

Can I have more than one action button?

No. Only one action button shows on a profile at a time. Your bio can still hold up to five links, so the other things you want people to do go there.

Should the Book button go straight to my booking form?

For returning customers, yes. For people who found you on Instagram, a short page with the price, your hours and one button usually works better, because they arrive at the form knowing what they are booking and what it costs.
