The design editor turns your photos and words into a finished post graphic without leaving Postfjord. It fills the whole screen. What you see on the page is what gets saved.
Find the editor
Press Create in the menu, then Design, right under Posts. Media, where every saved picture lands, sits under it. On a phone, open Menu first, and the small words Design and Media at the top of the page take you between the two.
The Design page shows the same start as the editor: a blank page in each size, the templates, the designs you were working on, and your Saved designs. Pick any of them and the editor opens over the whole screen. Press Share and then Save and the pictures go to Media, as always. Close the editor and you are back on the Design page.
You can also open the editor from a post (Design), from Media (Create image) and from the media picker.
Start a design
The editor opens on What will you make today?. From the top:
- Search templates. The search finds a template by its name, its goal, its kind, your kind of business, what it looks like or a word in it, like croissant, schedule, chalk or poll. You can also type what is going on at your business, in English or Swedish: free slots, cancellation, last spots, sold out, restock, fully booked, new address, renovation, holiday hours, lunch menu or gift card. You get the templates made for that. The results show under the round buttons. If you search from My designs, you go back to All templates to see them.
- Two small buttons under the search. Help me pick asks what your goal is this week and shows the 3 templates that fit it best, each with a headline written for you. Dictate turns an idea you say out loud into a carousel.
- The round buttons start something new: Post (4:5) and Story start a blank page in that size, Reel a video when video is on for you, and Email shows the email templates. All sizes opens a list under them: first Square, Landscape and From a photo, which starts with a photo of yours, then every format by where the design goes: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, X, Threads and Bluesky, Pinterest, and Profile pictures. Click a format to start a blank page in its size.
- The tabs All templates, For you, My designs and Email. All templates is open when you come in. Under them are the templates.
My designs
Press the My designs tab to see your own work, each kind under its own heading:
- Continue where you left off: the designs you were working on, newest first. Click one to go on, or press the bin to throw it away.
- Your team is working on: what your teammates are making.
- Saved designs: the designs you saved.
- Your templates: the pages you saved as a template.
You only see a heading when it has something under it. With nothing there yet, My designs says so, and Start from a template takes you back to the templates. The back button in your browser goes from My designs back to them too.
Start from a template
There are hundreds of templates, for a sale, a new product, a class schedule, opening hours, a review, an event, tips in a carousel, a before and after, a reel cover, a polaroid collage, a moodboard, a magazine cover, a menu with prices, a countdown, a week schedule, a product spotlight, meet the team, a checklist, photo grids, a photo dump, a post in an Instagram frame, a camera view, a taped photo, an editorial cover, a sale on a paper card, a film strip, a weekly recap, a photo with a short caption, a photo in an arch, a photo in a wide white border, two photos laid over each other and more. Newer ones look like the things around you: a coupon, a receipt, a price tag, a ticket stub, a calendar page, a map pin, a chalkboard menu, a text chat, a lock screen, a poll, a question box, a scrapbook page and a handwritten note. Under For you each one is drawn in your brand colors and fonts, so the cards show what you get. Templates place no logo: add yours under Logo where you want it. The words come in your brand's language (Settings, Brand), so a Swedish studio gets Swedish words even with the app in English.
- All templates comes first and is open when you come in. It has every one, each in its own colors and fonts, so you see many styles. The minimal ones come first, with carousels, posts and stories mixed. There are 30 looks, like cream and serif, black and gold, candy colors, retro 70s, a wedding script and bright colors for kids. The newest templates have calm, minimal looks of their own: editorial pages in greige with black and white photos and big capitals, warm pink and terracotta with round photos and curved words, and soft arches with a script word. It opens in that look: Heading font, Body font and the colors at the top of each list are the template's own. Press Apply brand to give it your colors and fonts.
- For you starts with the calm, minimal templates for your kind of business, then its other templates, then the rest. There are eight kinds: shops, studios and fitness, cafes and restaurants, hair and beauty, trades and services, creators, coaches and events. We pick yours from what you told us when you signed up, or from your business name. An agency, or a business that fits none of them, sees the minimal templates first and then the ones that suit anyone. Before all of that come the templates in your style (see Your style below), and a short line over them says which style it is.
- Your templates has the pages you saved yourself.
- Email (where email is on for your workspace) has the email templates. All shows every one, and the words next to it show one kind of email, like a newsletter or an offer. Click one and a new email starts from it, with your logo, and opens in the email editor. There you can design any picture in it here again with Design.
Under the tabs is one row: the kinds, All, Posts, Landscape, Stories, Carousels, Reel covers and, when video is on for you, Videos, and on the right Filter. Filter opens the rest. Goal picks what you want this week:
- Sell more: offers, new in, events and last spots.
- Save time: opening hours, schedules, tips and news, like what to bring or that you moved.
- Build trust: reviews, quotes, before and after, and infographics.
Style picks a look, each with three small color dots:
- Minimalist & Earthy: calm colors, natural tones and lots of space.
- Bold & Powerful: big type and strong colors that stand out.
- Classic & Luxury: elegant serif type, black, cream and gold.
- Warm & Organic: soft paper, earth colors and a friendly feel.
- Bright & Energetic: happy colors and playful type full of energy.
Topic picks a category, like Offers, Events or Opening hours. With Sell more picked, it only shows the categories that sell. What you pick shows as a small word under the row, and the number on Filter says how many are on. Press the x on a word to take it off. You can use them all with the kinds and the search, like Sell more, Stories, Warm & Organic and the word yoga. Press Back to see every template again. On a phone, swipe the kinds sideways to see more.
Under them every template is in rows of the same height, each in its own shape, with the picture first. Press Carousels and pick a size: 4:5 for Instagram and LinkedIn, 1:1 for Facebook and Threads, or 9:16 for a TikTok photo carousel and stories. The carousels show and open in that size, each drawn for it. Hold the mouse over a card to see its name, and a carousel turns its pages so you see all of them. Scroll down to see more.
Click a card to see every page large, and a story in a phone frame. Press Use template and it opens in the editor. The words and photos are examples: change them to yours. The photos come from Pexels and Pixabay, and you may use them in your posts at no cost. There are about 570 of them, hosted by us. When you open the editor from a post, the templates in the size your post needs come first, with Fits your post.
No brand colors yet? The templates use ours until you add yours under Settings, Brand.
Your style
Under Settings, Brand kit, Your style you pick one of the five styles. Each one shows a short line, and three templates in that style show under them. Press Save. For you then shows the templates in that style first. Leave it on Let Postfjord guess and we guess the style from your brand colors, your fonts and your kind of business. The guess only changes the order: every template is still there. Under All templates the styles take turns, so the first screen shows a bit of each.
Use the whole set
Many templates belong to a set: 6 to 9 posts, carousels, stories and reel covers in one look, like a ready campaign. Open one of them on the Design page and press Use the whole set.
- Postfjord makes every design in the set at once, each in its own size, with your business name filled in, and your website when you have added one.
- You also get an email banner in the same look, 600 x 300 in the email, for your newsletter.
- The button counts while it works, like Making 4 of 9.
- Then My designs opens with the new designs on top, under Continue where you left off, and a note says how many were made.
Nothing is saved to Media or posted yet. Open each design, change the words and photos to yours, and save it. The designs keep the look you saw in the preview: in All templates that is the set's own colors and fonts, and Apply brand gives one your brand.
You can keep 50 designs in progress. When a set does not fit, the preview says how many more you have room for and makes nothing: delete a few in My designs and try again. You can also make up to 30 new designs a minute, so right after another set the preview may ask you to wait a minute. The preview stays open while a set is made. Designs from a set stay until you save or delete them. The editor never throws them away to make room, as it does with older designs you started yourself.
Plan a week with a set
A set can also fill a week on your calendar. Open a template of a set on the Design page and press Plan a week with this set. In My designs, the sets of your open drafts (up to three) have the same button under Plan a week. A set you saved and closed leaves that list, but its templates still offer the button. The solo founder sets, whose templates show what to write with words in [brackets], have no planned week: open their templates one by one and write your own words.
- Pick the week. It starts on next Monday, in your workspace's time zone. Pick another day and the week moves to the Monday on or after it, so all four posts sit in one calendar week.
- The list shows the four posts: inspiration (a quote) on day 1, tips (often a carousel) on day 3, social proof (a review) on day 5 and an offer on day 7, each with the set's template for it. A set without one of these kinds uses another of its templates. The week uses the set's templates in your brand kit, with your workspace name and website, not the drafts you changed.
- Press Make 4 draft posts. Postfjord makes each design into a picture in Media and puts a draft post with it on the calendar at 10 am. The button counts while it works.
- A line says the drafts are on your calendar and what to change. Press Open the calendar to see that week. To plan another week, pick another Monday. If you leave the page while it works, a note at the bottom says how it went.
Nothing is published. The pictures keep the template's sample words, such as prices, offers and reviews. Before you schedule a post, open it, press Edit design and change those words to your own. The drafts have no channels and no text yet: write the caption, pick channels and schedule it. Each picture counts toward the designs you can save in a day, as Save in the editor does. When that stops it half way, the posts made so far stay on the calendar, the picture of the post that stopped is taken out of Media again, and the line says why. Press Make the remaining to make only the days still missing.
Templates with words to swap
Some templates show what to write instead of example words, for things a small business posts every week: a launch, an offer that ends tomorrow, the last spots, fully booked, sold out and back in stock, a price list, a gift card, quick tips in 3 steps, myth or fact, the biggest mistake in your field, a word and what it means, a checklist, a review with five stars, a result in one big number, before and after, behind the scenes, why you started, new opening hours, before your visit, questions and answers, where to find you, a move or a renovation and this week's lunch. The words in [square brackets] tell you what goes there, for example "[The problem your customer has], solved in 20 minutes". Click the text and write your own. In the template picker these templates have the tag Words to swap, and a search for "fill in" finds them all.
The last spots templates show the seats as circles. A filled circle is a taken spot and an open ring is a free one. The circles do not follow the number you write, so make them match: click a circle to change its fill, or delete circles until the count is right.
Forgot one? Before you save, send to your phone, copy the picture or download it, Postfjord lists each page that still has words in [brackets] under Check before you save, with how many texts on that page still need your words. Press Fix to go to the first of them, or Save anyway if you want the brackets. Brackets you type in your own designs, like [NEW], are left alone.
Change the format later under Format and every page keeps its shape. Text and shapes grow or shrink together and stay in the middle of the new page. A band that touched an edge still reaches that edge, a logo near an edge keeps its distance to it, and a photo that fills the page still fills it. Check the page after a big change, like square to story.
Change one page with Layouts
Press Layouts on the left to see single pages from the template sets, in the size of your design. Click one and it takes the place of the page you are on. Your headline and text from that page move into the new look, and a page number like 02 / 05 changes to where the page is in your design. The other pages stay as they are, so you can change a carousel one page at a time. Did you change the page yourself? Then Postfjord asks first. Undo takes it back. A size with no pages in the sets, like a wide banner, shows the simple layouts instead.
Banners, pins and profile pictures
Besides posts, you can make the pictures for your profiles. Open All sizes and pick one:
- Pin under Pinterest: 1000 × 1500, the 2:3 shape Pinterest shows best. A post to Pinterest uses this size too.
- Channel banner under YouTube: 2560 × 1440. YouTube shows only the middle on every screen, so the parts outside it are striped with Cut off on some screens. Keep your name and logo in the clear middle.
- Cover photo under Facebook: 1640 × 624. A phone cuts off both sides, so they are striped too.
- Background photo under LinkedIn: 1584 × 396. A dashed circle on the bottom left shows where your profile photo covers it.
- Profile picture: 1080 × 1080. The platforms show it round, so the corners are dimmed and a dashed circle shows what people will see.
The marks are only in the editor. The picture you save or download is the whole page. Every template works in these sizes too: pick one under Templates and it moves to the shape of the page. On a wide banner, check the page after you pick a template. Sizes and Format list these sizes next to the post sizes, so you can turn a post into a banner or a pin.
Pictures for an email
From a picture in an email, Design opens this editor in an email size: Email header (600 × 200), Email banner (600 × 300), Email square (600 × 600) or Product collage (600 × 400). They are drawn at twice that size, so they stay sharp. Sizes shows only the email sizes for such a design, and Save to Media puts the picture straight into the email. How it works: Design a picture for the email.
Your brand on every design
Your brand has a main color, an accent, a text color and a background color, plus a heading font and a body font (set the body font under Settings, Brand). Every color setting shows these first, by name. Pick one and that part follows your brand: a small Follows your brand mark shows it. Pick any other color and that part keeps the color you picked. The font list starts with Heading font and Body font in the same way.
- Apply brand puts your brand colors and fonts on the design. It works on a design you made before too: each part takes the brand color closest to the one it has. Text that sits right on a photo keeps its own color, so it stays easy to read. Press it again for another mix of the same colors.
- Shuffle tries a new look: other brand colors on the page (your more brand colors too, as small details), the other font pair, and on a template another layout. It only uses your own colors and fonts, and it never puts text on a color where it is hard to read. Press it as often as you like. Undo takes you back one look at a time.
Change your brand under Settings while a design is open and the design follows along. Pictures you already saved keep the colors they were saved with.
Without brand colors, Apply brand and Shuffle show you where to add them.
The editor at a glance
- Left: the tools. Templates, layouts, your saved templates, text, shapes, photos, your logo, the format, Layers and Sizes. A tool opens a panel next to the page. Layers opens Position on its Layers tab, with everything on the page, top first, and Sizes shows the design in every size.
- Top: under the name and Share sits the bar with the tools for what you picked. It floats over the top of the page area, and the page sits just under it. Every setting of a layer is in this bar, as in Canva. There is no panel on the right. Pick a text and it shows the font, the size with - and +, the color, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, capitals, how the lines line up, List, Spacing, Effects and Edit. Spacing has the weight, the line height, the letter spacing and Shrink text to fit. Text in a template also shows how many letters it has and how many fit, in red when there are too many. Pick a photo and it shows Crop, Remove background, Magic eraser, Erase, Replace photo, Fill page, how dark the photo is, Filters, Adjust, Frame, Effects and Flip. Pick a shape and it shows the fill, the corners, the line, Stroke style and Effects. Pick several texts, or a group of them, and the bar shows the font, the size, the color, bold and italic for all of them at once. Pick several shapes and it shows one fill for all of them. A color button opens the Color panel on the left. A small link by a color means it follows your brand. Every layer, and several layers picked at once, get Position, which opens on the left too (see below). Click an empty part of the page to pick the page: it gets a frame, and the bar shows the background color, the size, Layers and Keyboard. A gradient, pattern or texture behind everything is part of the page: a click on it picks the page too. Does a photo cover the whole page? Then click it and press Page in the bar. Click the gray around the page to pick nothing: then there is no bar at all, as in Canva. A text, photo or shape also gets the paint roller for Copy style. Every layer gets the checkered Transparency button. Its slider goes from 0 to 100, and you can type the number too. At 0 the layer is still there, in Layers and to click, you just cannot see it. Transparency works on several layers picked at once too. Under the slider, Blend mixes a layer with what is under it (see Blend a layer). Font, Color, Effects and Position open in the panel on the left for a moment. Press Escape, the X or the same button again, and the tool you had open before comes back.
- Middle: the page. Click something to pick it. A small menu shows up above it with lock, duplicate, delete and More, as in Canva. Pick several layers and it starts with Group. Pick a group, or one part of a group, and it starts with Ungroup. While you type in a text it keeps just the lock and More. More has copy, paste, copy style, flip, layer order, line up with the page, lock and delete, each with its keys.
- Bottom: the pages of a carousel and the zoom.
On a narrow screen the bar shows only the icons. Point at one to see its name. The bar always stays on one line: when there are more tools than fit, the last ones move into ... at the end of the bar. Press it to see them.
Right-click
Right-click a layer for a menu with copy, paste, duplicate, delete, copy style, paste style, flip, group and lock. A photo also gets Set image as background, which makes it cover the whole page, like Fill page in the bar. Some rows open a second list next to the menu:
- Layer: Bring to front, Bring forward, Send backward, Send to back and Show layers, each with its keys.
- Line up with the page: top, left, middle, center, bottom and right. A group or several layers move as one piece and keep their places to each other.
- Line up with each other, when you picked several layers: they line up with the box around them, as in Canva.
Right-click an empty part of the page for Copy style, Paste, Duplicate page (Cmd+D) and Add page (Cmd+Enter), then add a text, pick the background color or open Templates. Copy style on a page copies its background. Right-click another page and Paste style gives it the same one.
The arrow keys move through the menu, the right arrow opens a second list and the left arrow goes back. Enter picks, and Escape or a click outside closes it. From the keyboard, Shift+F10 opens the menu for what you picked.
Colors
Every color button in the bar opens the Color panel on the left: a text's color (or the color of the words you picked while you type), a shape's fill and line, an icon's color and the page's background.
- Type in the search box to find a color by name, like blue, or by its code, like #1f6f8b. A whole code is always offered first, so any color is one search away.
- In this design shows the colors your design already uses. The + opens your own color: drag in the square to make it lighter, darker or stronger, slide along the colors under it, or type the code. In Chrome and Edge the dropper next to the code picks a color from anywhere on your screen.
- Brand colors are yours, by name. Pick one and that part follows your brand.
- Photo colors shows the main colors of the photos on the page, the photo you picked first. Click one to use it. Save to brand kit adds them to your brand's colors, so they show under Brand colors in every design. Pick a photo and open the panel to see its colors on their own: a click then copies the color's code.
- Colors that match this design is a grid of 28 colors made from your design's colors, or from your brand's when the design has none yet. Each row is one color from light to dark, and the last rows are calm colors that go with it. Pick a lighter or darker one to keep the design in one family.
- Default colors is a grid of 28 calm colors, from black to white.
- A shape's fill and the page's background also show Gradients from this design, made from your own colors: a color to a lighter one of itself, or two of your colors together. Under them are more Gradients for anyone, with calm ones like Sand, Clay, Sage and Ink to paper. One click uses any of them.
- Under the colors you can pick Gradient and change it: the first and second color, a middle color, the direction and the angle. This works for a shape and for the page's background. A plain color picked after a gradient takes its place. On the page, a plain color takes the place of a gradient, pattern or texture behind everything.
Several texts picked, or a group of texts? The color goes to all of them. Several shapes picked? The fill goes to all of them.
A shape's fill and line also have No fill and No line. The panel stays open while you pick other layers, and it follows them: pick a shape after a text and it shows the shape's fill, or click an empty part of the page and it shows the background. Press Escape or the X to close it.
Position
Press Position in the bar to open it on the left, as in Canva. It has two tabs, and it opens on the tab you used last time.
- Arrange: Bring forward, Send backward, Bring to front and Send to back. Then Line up with the page: top, left, middle, center, bottom or right. With several layers picked it says Line up with each other and lines them up with the box around them, and with three or more you also get the same space between them. A whole group lines up with the page as one piece.
- Size and place: type the width, the height, the place (X and Y) and the turn. The lock between width and height keeps the shape, so the other side follows. It starts locked for a photo or a logo. A text's height follows its lines, so it is grayed out. With several layers picked, X and Y move them all together.
- Layers: everything on the page, top first, each with a small picture (see Layers below).
Move, size and turn
- Click a layer to pick it. A shape, an icon or a hand-drawn line is picked where it is drawn, so a click in the hole of a ring, in the empty corner of an icon or inside a hand-drawn circle picks what is under it. A photo cut to a shape is picked inside the shape. Once a layer is picked, you can drag it from anywhere in its box.
- Drag a layer to move it. It snaps to the middle and the edges of the page and to the other layers, and a line shows where. The space to the nearest layer shows as a small number. Hold Cmd (Ctrl on Windows) while you drag to stop the snapping, and Shift to move in a straight line.
- Hold Alt while you drag to drag a copy. The layer stays where it was and the copy lands where you let go. One undo takes the copy away.
- Drag one of the 8 handles to change the size. The opposite side stays where it is. A corner keeps the shape of a photo, a shape or a logo, as in Canva: hold Shift to stretch it freely. A side handle stretches it, and on a photo it crops. Hold Alt to grow from the middle. A circle stays round from a corner and becomes an oval from a side. A text's corner handles make the letters bigger, and its side handles change how wide the text is. A text's side snaps to the middle and edges of the page and to the other layers, as a shape's does. A short text keeps its side handles too, a little smaller. While you drag, a small label by the pointer shows the size, like w: 499 h: 554, and the other handles and the small menu hide.
- Drag the round handle under a layer to turn it. Hold Shift to turn in steps of 15 degrees. The label by the pointer shows the turn, like -45°. When there is no room under the layer, at the bottom of the screen, the handle sits above it. The small menu always moves out of its way.
- A thin or small layer, like a thin bar, also gets a Move handle with four arrows next to the round one. Drag it to move the layer without grabbing a handle by mistake.
- The lines that show where a layer snaps are pink. A line to the middle or an edge of the page runs across the whole page.
- Pick several layers with Shift and a click, or drag on an empty part of the page. The drag never picks the photo that fills the page or a gradient, pattern or texture behind everything, so Delete never takes your background with them. They get a dashed frame, and each one gets its own outline. Then line them up, give them equal space, or group them.
- Flip turns a photo or a shape over, left to right or upside down. Find it under More, in the right-click menu, or on the bar when a photo is picked. A group or several layers flip as one: they swap places like in a mirror. Text never shows mirrored, so it stays readable. The saved picture looks the same.
Copy style
Make the second heading look like the first in one click:
- Pick the text, photo, shape or line that looks right.
- Press the paint roller on the bar at the top. A line on the page says it is waiting.
- Click the layer that should look the same. It gets the style. Press Undo to take it back.
A text gives its font, size, weight, color, spacing, the color behind it, how the lines line up and capitals. A shape gives its fill, line and corners. A photo gives how dark it is, its Adjust settings, its effects and how see-through it is, never its crop or the picture itself. A line gives its color, weight, dashes, ends and type. A page gives its background color: right-click an empty part of the page for Copy style, then right-click another page for Paste style. A style goes only to a layer of the same kind, and never to a locked one. Escape, the roller again or a click on an empty part of the page stops it. With the keys: Alt+Cmd+C copies the style and Alt+Cmd+V pastes it on what you picked.
Text
Click a text to pick it, then click it again to type. The cursor lands where you clicked, so the first key you press adds a letter there and never wipes the text. A double click picks the word under it. Enter also starts typing, with the cursor after the last letter. Press Escape or click somewhere else when you are done. A text you empty is removed.
To add a text, open Text on the left and press Add a text box, or pick a heading, a subheading or body text under Text styles. The new text lands in the middle of the page with all its words picked, so you can start typing right away and your words take their place. It stays on one line and grows wider as you type, and it stays in the middle. When the line gets almost as wide as the page, the words wrap onto the next line, so nothing runs off the page. Press Enter for a new line. Drag a side handle to give it a width: from then on the lines wrap at that width. The font combinations you used last show first, under Recently used.
The bar at the top changes the font, size, color, bold, italic and how the lines line up. While you type, the bar works without stopping your typing. Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough and the color go to the words you picked. The font, the size, capitals, how the lines line up, List and Spacing change the whole text, and their names say so. The font opens the Font panel on the left. It has two tabs. Font lists Fonts in this design first, then your brand fonts, the ones you used last and every font. The arrow next to a font opens its styles, like Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold italic. Text styles are the font combinations: pick one to add it to the page as new text. Click the size to open a list of common sizes, from 8 to 144, or type any size from 8 to 400 (one decimal, like 20.5). The smallest size is 8, so the list starts there. The - and + make it 1 smaller or bigger. With several texts picked, the size shows a dash when they differ, and a size you pick goes to all of them. A color behind the text is under Effects, Background.
Spacing in the bar has the weight, the letter spacing and the line height, as in Canva. Letter spacing goes from -200 to 800, in thousandths of the text's size, so 100 adds a tenth of a letter between letters at any size. Change the size and the spacing grows or shrinks with it. On very big text the slider ends sooner, at the most space the page can draw. Line height goes from 0.5 to 2.5: 1 puts the lines tight, 2 leaves a full line between them.
Bold, italic or a color on some words
- Click the text, then click it again so you can type in it.
- Pick the words you want to change: drag over them, or hold Shift and use the arrow keys.
- Press Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough or the color in the bar at the top. Only the words you picked change. The rest of the text stays as it was.
Cmd+B, Cmd+I and Cmd+U do the same while you type (Ctrl on Windows). Press Cmd+Z right after to take the style back.
Want the next word in bold? While you type, with no words picked, press Bold (or Cmd+B) and keep typing: the new letters come out bold and the rest stays as it was. Press it again to stop. New letters you type take the style of the letter before them, so a bold word stays bold as you add to it. While you type, bold words show a little thicker. When you click outside the text they get their real width.
To change the whole text, click it once so it is picked (not typing) and press Bold, Italic or the color, or pick every word while you type. This also changes the words you styled on their own, and so does the weight under Spacing. Paste style gives a text one style all through. A word's own color stays when you press Apply brand. Picking words is done on a computer: on a phone, the color in the text's sheet changes the whole text.
Underline, strikethrough and lists
- Underline draws a line under the letters. Strikethrough draws a line through them, for an old price, say. Click the text once and press the button to change the whole text, or pick some words while you type to change only those. Cmd+U underlines too.
- List puts a bullet before each line you start with Enter. Press it again for numbers (1., 2., 3.), and once more for no list. Lines that wrap move in with the text. With the text lined up on the left, the bullets stay in a row on the left. Centered or on the right, each bullet sits just before the first letter of its line.
The lines and bullets take the text's color and its effect, and the saved picture shows them the way the page does.
Text that shrinks to fit
Text in a template sits in a box. Write more and the letters get smaller so the words stay inside. Write less and they grow back. Pick a size yourself, with - and + in the bar, by typing a size there, or drag the text's box, and it stops shrinking: a corner makes the text bigger or smaller, a side makes the box wider or narrower and the lines wrap, and the box grows with the lines, as in Canva. Sizes go from 8 to 400. To turn shrinking on again, open Spacing and set Shrink text to fit to Shrink. Place in the box puts the text at the top, the middle or the bottom of its box, like Canva's Anchor text box. Under Position a text's height is shown but grayed out: a text is as tall as its lines. Turn on Shrink text to fit to set the height yourself.
A red frame and Text does not fit show when the words do not fit even at the smallest size, for example one long word. The bar shows Text does not fit too: click it to open Spacing and see what to do. Make the box bigger or use fewer words. To turn shrinking off for one text, open Spacing and set Shrink text to fit to Keep size. The size then stays what you set.
Edit with AI
AI in Design is on the paid plans: Edit with AI, Say it, see it, Help me pick, Remove background, Magic eraser, Make captions for a video and the ad texts under Advertise on Meta. On Free you see a note with a link to upgrade instead. Everything else in the editor works on Free.
Pick a carousel template, then let Claude write the words on every page.
- Press Edit with AI on the left. On a phone, press Add, then Edit with AI.
- Under What should each page say?, write one line or paragraph per page. The first line goes on the cover, the last can be your call to action. One sentence about the topic works too, and Claude writes the pages from it.
- Leave Match the number of pages to the outline on to get one page per line. Postfjord copies the middle pages of the template for extra lines and removes pages you do not need. Turn it off to keep the pages you have.
- Press Rewrite pages.
Every text gets new words. Photos, shapes, colors and fonts stay as they are, and a text that gets longer shrinks to fit its box. The panel says what changed. Press Undo there, or Cmd+Z, to get the old words and pages back in one step.
#### Carousel recipes
Do not know how to build the carousel? Press a recipe under Start from a recipe and write one or two lines about what it is about. Claude writes every page in that format, five or six pages, in this design. The recipes are formats people save and share: Cheap or premium, Stop and start, 3 steps, Unpopular opinion, Checklist, What nobody tells you, Explained simply, A mistake I made, Two words, mixed up and Tools I use. Press the recipe again to write your own outline instead.
It uses your AI budget, or your own AI if you connected one under Settings, AI. With Write it myself on in the Dock, it is off for you. In a video it keeps the pages you have.
#### Say it, see it
Have an idea but no time to type? Say it out loud and get a finished carousel.
- Open Design. Under the search, at the top, find Say it, see it and press Dictate.
- Say your idea the way you would tell a friend, up to about a minute. Press Stop and transcribe.
- Your words show in the box. Fix a word if it came out wrong.
- Press Make my carousel. The screen says what it is doing: listening, writing your pages, opening your carousel.
Postfjord picks a carousel template that fits your kind of business and a recipe that fits your idea, then writes every page from your words. The carousel opens in the editor with Edit with AI open. Press Undo there to get the plain template back, or pick another recipe and press Rewrite pages.
Already in a design? Edit with AI has the same Say it, see it box on top. There, Write it into this design keeps your design and writes your idea into its pages. It is not offered in a video.
Your recording becomes text the same way as dictation in the composer, in your workspace's language. It uses your AI budget, and with Write it myself on it is off for you.
#### Help me pick
Not sure which template to use? Tell Postfjord your goal and get 3 to choose from.
- Open Design. Under the search, press Help me pick.
- Pick a goal: Sell the last spots, Launch something new, Get more reviews or Say hi to new followers. Or write it in your own words, like "fill 4 seats in Saturday's pottery class". You can do both.
- Press Show 3 templates. The screen says it is picking your templates.
- You get 3 templates that fit your kind of business and your goal, each with a headline written for that goal. The headline shows on the template and under it.
- Click one. It opens in the editor with that headline in place. Change any word you like.
Press Pick again for 3 new ones. The headlines are in your brand's language. Postfjord never makes up a price, a date or a name you did not write. It uses your AI budget, and with Write it myself on it is off for you.
Rewrite one text with AI
Want different words in just one text box? Click the text, then press AI in the bar above it.
- Pick Shorter, Longer, Punchier, More formal, Friendlier or Fix spelling.
- Or press Translate to and pick a language. Your workspace's language is first in the list.
- Or write what to change under Or tell it what to change, for example "Add that the first class is free", and press Rewrite.
Only that text changes. Its font, size and colors stay. When the new words are longer, the text shrinks to fit its box. Press Cmd+Z, or Undo, to get the old words back in one step. Claude keeps your prices, dates and links as they are and never adds a dash.
It is on the paid plans, like Edit with AI. It uses your AI budget, and with Write it myself on it is off for you.
Photos
Add photos under Photos: your own from Media, and free photos you may use in your posts at no cost. Press Upload at the top to pick photos from your computer or phone: they go to Media and straight onto the page. Choose photos opens all of Media, Google Drive, Dropbox and the rest. Press a kind of business, like Food and drink or Trades, to see only those free photos. Click a photo to add it. It lands in the middle of the page in its own shape, about four fifths as wide as the page, as in Canva. It is a frame you can move, size and turn. To make it cover the whole page, drag it to the edge of the page, or press Fill page. A page holds up to 8 photos.
Want the page to look like paper, cloth or a wall? Press Textures. There are 30 real textures: white paper, brown kraft paper, cardboard, linen, burlap, felt, plaster and concrete. Click one and it goes behind everything and fills the page. If the page already has a photo that fills it, the texture takes its place. Your text and shapes stay on top. Textures come from ambientCG and Poly Haven, and you may use them in your posts at no cost.
Drag photos onto the page
On a computer you can drag a photo from Photos onto the page, or drag picture files from your computer. While you drag, the page shows what will happen:
- Fill the page: drop near the edge of the page and the photo goes behind everything and fills it. If a photo already fills the page, it gets the new picture.
- Replace this photo: drop on a smaller photo and its picture is swapped. The frame stays, and the crop starts again.
- Fill this shape with the photo: drop on a shape, like a circle, a ring, a box or a heart, and the shape becomes the photo. It keeps its size, place, shape and line. Double click it to move the photo inside it. Shapes with words in them, and a box that covers the page, stay as they are.
- Add the photo here: drop anywhere else on the page, also on the photo that fills it, and the photo is added where you let go, about four fifths as wide as the page. Near the edge it can hang over the side, as in Canva. Drag its handles to make it the size you want.
A locked photo is never swapped.
Files from your computer are uploaded to Media first, with the same limits as any upload. The page says how far the upload is. Each drop is one step, so Undo takes it back. On a phone or tablet, tap a photo to add it.
- Crop: double click a photo, or press Crop. The rest of the page goes dark, and the part of the photo outside the frame shows faintly so you see what is cut away. On a computer the crop tools open in the panel on the left, where the tool you had open was, and the bar over the page hides while you crop. The tool comes back after Done or Cancel, and picking another tool keeps the crop and opens it. On a phone the crop tools sit in a bar under the page.
1. Drag a white corner or an edge of the frame to make it bigger or smaller. The photo stays where it is, and the frame stops at the edge of the photo. 2. Pick a shape for the frame: Freeform, Original, Square, 16:9, 9:16, 5:4, 4:5, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2 or 2:3. The frame takes that shape at once and shows as much of the photo as fits. 3. Drag the photo to choose what shows. Scroll, pinch, use Zoom or drag a round handle at a corner of the photo to make it bigger. The arrow keys move it one step at a time. 4. Use Rotate to turn the photo inside the frame, for example to make a horizon level. It grows just enough to keep the frame full. 90° turns it a quarter, and the two flip buttons mirror it. 5. Press Done or Enter, or click outside the photo, to keep the crop. Cancel or Escape puts the photo back as it was. Start over shows the whole photo again, straight and in its own shape.
A grid shows while you drag, so you can place things on the thirds. Undo waits until you press Done or Cancel, then takes back the whole crop in one step. A photo in a shape keeps its shape: you move, zoom and turn the photo inside it. A photo that fills the page keeps the page as its frame. Outside crop mode, dragging the middle of a photo's side also crops it: the frame changes and the photo stays the same size.
- Fill page puts a photo behind everything and over the whole page. Free makes it a frame again.
- Replace photo swaps the picture and keeps the frame.
- Filters in the bar gives a photo a look in one click (see Filters).
- Adjust in the bar has Canva's sliders. Each goes from -100 to 100, and 0 leaves the photo as it is:
- White balance: Temperature (warmer or cooler) and Tint (more green or more pink). - Light: Brightness, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites and Blacks. - Color: Vibrance (a gentler way to make colors stronger) and Saturation. - Texture: Sharpness, Clarity (more punch in the middle tones), Vignette (darker edges, or lighter ones below 0), Fade (gray blacks, like an old print) and Grain (fine film grain). Fade and Grain go from 0 to 100.
Auto-adjust sets the light sliders and Vibrance for you from the photo's light and color. The other sliders stay as you had them, and you can change each one after. If a photo cannot be read, Auto-adjust says so and leaves the photo as it is. Reset adjustments puts the photo back as it was and takes off its filter. A photo you adjusted before keeps its look. The saved picture is adjusted the same way as the page.
Filters
Pick a photo, or a photo that fills the page, and press Filters in the bar. You see your own photo in 21 looks, each with its name: Vivid, Punch, Warm, Golden hour, Summer, Cool, Cinema, Crisp, Dramatic, Soft, Pastel, Fade, Matte, Film, Retro, Vintage, Grain, Mono, Noir, Sepia and Duotone.
- Click a look. The photo on the page changes at once.
- Drag Strength from 0 to 100. It starts at 50. At 100 the look is twice as strong.
- Click another look to swap. Click None to take the look off.
A filter sets the photo's Adjust sliders, so you can fine-tune it there after. Take the filter off and your own Adjust settings come back as they were. A slider you moved yourself after picking the filter keeps your value. Duotone uses your brand's darkest and lightest colors. Sepia uses warm browns. Undo takes back a filter in one step, and a whole drag of Strength in one step too. The saved picture, the download and a video look the same as the page.
Blend a layer
Any layer can mix with what is under it, like a color over a photo. Pick the layer, press the checkered Transparency button and choose a Blend mode:
- Multiply darkens: white disappears, dark colors stay.
- Screen lightens: black disappears, light colors stay.
- Overlay, Soft light and Hard light add contrast in the layer's colors.
- Darken and Lighten keep the darker or the lighter of the two.
- Color paints the photo below in the layer's color and keeps its light.
- Luminosity keeps the colors below and takes the layer's light.
- Difference flips the colors where they overlap.
Normal takes the blend off. Blend works on several layers picked at once. The saved picture and a video show the same blend as the page.
Photo frames
Pick a photo and press Frame in the bar at the top:
- Shape cuts the photo to a circle, an arch, a blob, a heart, a star, a price burst, a seal, a hexagon, a speech bubble and more. No shape gives the plain photo back.
- Radius rounds the corners of a photo with no shape.
- Line around the photo draws a line in any color, and the slider makes it thicker.
The crop stays the same: double click the photo to move it inside its shape. Copy style takes the frame along to another photo.
Frames
A frame is a place for a photo, in a shape, before you have the photo. Open Frames on the left:
- Click a frame: a square, rounded corners, a circle, an arch, a heart, a star and the other shapes, a polaroid with a white border, or a phone.
- The frame lands in the middle of the page with a small fjord picture in it, so you see where the photo goes.
- Drag a photo from Photos onto it. The photo fills the frame and takes its shape. You can also pick the frame and click a photo in Photos, or double click the frame to choose one from your media.
Double click a filled frame to move the photo inside it. Drop another photo on it to swap the picture and keep the shape. A frame with no photo is left out of the saved picture, and Save tells you about it first.
The frames come in groups:
- Shapes: square, rounded, circle, arch, heart, star and more, a polaroid and a phone.
- Devices: a laptop, a desktop screen, a tablet and a phone with a home button, each in light and dark. The photo goes on the screen. Pick the device to change its color.
- Paper: a photo torn at the top, at the bottom or all round, a deckled edge like an old print, and a photo held up with tape.
- Nature: a daisy, a leaf, a cloud, a sun and a drop.
- Blobs: six soft shapes.
- Letters and numbers: A to Z and 0 to 9 in thick letters. Put one photo in each letter to spell a word.
- Retro: a gold oval and a gold frame, a film strip with 3 or 4 photos, and a contact sheet with 6.
A device, a gold frame, a film strip and a contact sheet are a group: the frame and its photos move together. A film strip and a contact sheet count every photo in them toward the 8 a page can hold. Type in Search frames to find one, in English, in Swedish or in your own language, like laptop, riven or 7.
Grids
A grid fills the page with frames side by side, for a collage or a before and after. Open Frames and scroll to Grids:
- Click a layout: one photo, two or three side by side or stacked, one big with two small, four, a mosaic, or six.
- Drag a photo into each frame.
- With the grid picked, Spacing sets the gap between the frames and Corners rounds them. With nothing picked, the two sliders set the next grid you add.
A grid is a group. Click one frame to pick the whole grid, and click it again to pick just that frame. Ungroup lets you move the frames one by one.
Some templates are made of frames: two polaroid collages, two moodboards on a grid, and a before and after in arches or circles. Drop your own photo on any of their photos to swap it, and the shape stays.
Shadows and photo effects
Pick a photo or a shape and press Effects in the bar at the top. The effects open in the panel on the left, as a text's do. A shape has the shadow.
- Shadow: Soft, Lift, Hard or Glow in one click. Then change its color, Softness, Distance and Strength. None takes it away.
- Warmth makes a photo warmer or cooler.
- Blur softens the whole photo, nice behind text.
- Vignette darkens the edges so the middle stands out.
- Duotone turns the photo into two colors: first your brand colors, then a few more.
The saved picture has the same shadows and effects as the page. A blurred photo keeps its color right to its edges.
Remove background
Pick a photo and press Remove background in the bar at the top. The person or thing in front stays and the background goes, so the page shows behind it.
- It takes about 20 seconds, and up to a minute the first time in a while. A note on the page shows that it is working, and you can keep editing meanwhile. If you are typing or cropping when it is done, you stay in it.
- The cut-out is saved in Media as a new picture. Your photo shows it in the same frame and crop.
- Undo brings the photo with its background back. The cut-out is a step of its own, so Undo never takes back what you did while it worked. The original photo stays in Media too.
It works best on a photo with one clear person or thing in front. It keeps the main one: a second person who is cut off by the edge of the photo is often taken away, and the edge where hands meet a table can look rough. Then press Undo and pick a photo with more room around the person. If Postfjord finds nothing clear to keep, it says so and nothing changes. It works in every browser and on a phone.
Each cut-out uses 1 cent of your plan's monthly AI budget (see Plan and AI budget). When the budget is used up, the editor says so and nothing changes.
A workspace can use Remove background, Magic eraser and its picking up to 500 times a day in total. Each try counts, also one that found nothing to keep.
Magic eraser
Pick a photo and press Magic eraser (the wand) in the bar at the top. It takes something out of the photo and fills in the background, so it looks like it was never there.
- Pick what to erase:
- Area: paint over it with the brush. What you paint shows in purple, and Brush size sets how wide the brush is. - Element: click a thing, like a cup or a bag. Postfjord finds all of it and shows it in purple. Click more things to take them too. - Foreground: the person or thing in front goes, with nothing to paint. - Text: Postfjord finds the text in the photo and puts a box around each line. Every box goes; click a box to keep that text.
- Press Erase. It takes about 10 seconds, and up to a minute the first time in a while.
- The result is saved in Media as a new picture, and your photo shows it in the same frame and crop. Undo brings the photo back. The original stays in Media too.
It works best on something small against a calm background, like a cup on a table or a sign on a wall. A big part of the photo, or a busy background, can come out blurry: then press Undo and paint a smaller part. Each erase uses 1 cent of your plan's monthly AI budget (see Plan and AI budget).
Erase
Pick a photo or a cut-out and press Erase (the brush) in the bar at the top. Then paint over the photo:
- Erase paints parts of the photo away, so the page shows there.
- Restore paints them back. On a cut-out it also brings back what Remove background took, like a hand or a bag it cut away by mistake.
- Brush size sets how wide the brush is. The ring under the pointer shows it.
- Undo stroke takes back the last stroke and Start over takes back all of them. Press Done or click outside the photo when you are finished.
Every stroke stays on the photo and nothing is saved over your picture, so you can open the design later and erase more or paint it back. Undo after Done takes back everything you painted in one go. A photo holds up to 60 strokes. Picking a new photo for the frame starts it clean. On a phone, tap the photo: Magic eraser and Erase are in its sheet.
Stickers
Open Stickers on the left for more than 1,300 pictures to put on your design:
- Emoji: about 200 colorful emoji for parties, food, shops, beauty, sport, nature and more.
- 3D emoji: more than 200 emoji that look round and shiny, like hearts, stars, gifts, arrows, food and faces.
- 3D icons: 150 shiny 3D icons, like a heart, a megaphone, a gift, a calendar, a shopping bag, money and a trophy. Most come in two colors: red and orange, or purple.
- Pictures for your business: about 100 drawings for shops, studios and gyms, food and drink, hair and beauty, trades, creators, coaches and events, plus Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Valentine's Day and the seasons. Type a kind of business, like shop or food, to see its pictures.
- Colorful shapes: 115 soft gradient shapes, flowers, stars, moons and numbers.
- Doodles: 33 drawings of people having fun: dancing, reading, running, with a dog and more.
- Noto emoji: about 150 emoji from Google, with faces, hands, hearts, food, flowers and party things.
- Vintage: about 80 old pictures from museums: birds, flowers, butterflies, shells, teacups, fans, frames and flower patterns. Most have no background, so they sit right on your design. A few are small prints with a soft edge.
- Little extras: about 80 fun bits: speech bubbles with a heart or a laugh, round and square faces, thumbs up and other hands, gold sparkles, check marks, stars and arrows.
- Illustrations: about 100 bright drawings: a cafe, a house, rooms of a home, a farm, food, pets, sport, office things and Christmas.
- People: 93 hand-drawn people, as busts, sitting and standing.
- People on the move: 33 colorful people walking, talking and sitting. Two of them sit in a wheelchair.
Type in Search stickers to find one by its name in English, like cake or heart. The 3D icons, the Noto emoji, the Vintage pictures, the little extras, the illustrations and the people on the move also know their Swedish name, like hjärta. Click one and it lands in the middle of the page. Drag a corner to make it bigger: it keeps its shape. A sticker can flip, turn, get a shadow, a frame shape and effects like a photo, and Replace photo swaps it for a photo of your own. A sticker counts as one of the 8 photos a page can hold.
The 3D emoji, the pictures for your business and the Vintage pictures look best at a small or medium size. Very big, they look soft.
The stickers are free to use in your posts: Fluent Emoji by Microsoft (MIT licence), Coolshapes (MIT licence), Open Peeps and Open Doodles by Pablo Stanley (CC0), pictures we picked by hand from Pixabay (Pixabay Content License), 3D icons from 3dicons by Vijay Verma (CC0) and Noto Emoji by Google (Apache 2.0 licence). The Vintage pictures are old works that belong to everyone (public domain), from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian (Cooper Hewitt) and the Rijksmuseum. We checked each one. The little extras come from Kenney, the illustrations from illlustrations by Vijay Verma and the people on the move from Humaaans by Pablo Stanley. All three are CC0, so they are free for everyone.
Backgrounds
There are about 60 ready backgrounds, in four groups:
- Halftone: retro dots that grow across a gradient, some with a worn print look.
- Grain: soft grainy gradients in sand, clay, olive, rose and espresso, paper, and two-color prints.
- Gradients: two colors, and soft glows of color.
- Retro: sunbursts, rings, 70s stripes and waves.
- Click an empty part of the page, then press the page color in the bar at the top.
- Scroll down to Backgrounds and click one. It fills the page.
- Changed your mind? Press Undo and the old background comes back.
Tick In my brand colors to see every background in your brand colors. Pick one and it changes along with your brand later. When the brand is locked, you only see them in your brand colors.
A background is a shape over the whole page at the bottom, so you can pick it and change its colors, pattern or texture like any shape.
Gradients
- A gradient background: click an empty part of the page (or pick the background and press Page), then press Gradients and patterns in the bar at the top. The first gradients are made from your brand colors, then a few more for anyone. A gradient background is a shape over the whole page at the bottom, so you can pick it, change it or remove it. Remove this background takes it away.
- Change a gradient background: press Background in the bar. Under the colors, change the First color, Second color, a Middle color, the direction and the angle. Undo takes back one whole drag of the angle. One color makes the page one color again.
- A gradient from your page's color: press Background, then Gradient under Fill with. The gradient starts from the color the page has now.
- A gradient from your own colors: Gradients from this design in the color panel are made from the colors in your design and your brand.
- A gradient on a shape: pick a shape and press its fill color in the bar. Pick one of the Gradients in the panel, or choose Gradient under Fill with below the colors. Pick the first and second color, Across, From the middle or Soft glow, and the angle.
- Three colors: pick a Middle color too. Pick None to go back to two colors.
- Soft glow: the fill stays, and the second color glows softly from one corner. The middle color glows from the other corner. The angle says which corner.
Patterns
- A pattern background: click an empty part of the page, then open Gradients and patterns in the bar at the top and pick a pattern in your brand colors.
- A pattern on a shape: press the shape's fill color and, under the colors, pick Dots, Grid, Stripes, Diagonal stripes, Checks, Waves, Zigzag, Plus signs, Confetti, Halftone, Grain, Sunburst, Rings, 70s stripes or Groovy waves. Change its color, size and strength. A pattern sits on top of the fill, also on a gradient.
- Halftone dots are small in one corner and grow bigger toward the other corner, like in a printed comic.
- Sunburst and Rings start in the middle of the shape, so they look right on a tall page too.
Textures
A texture makes a flat color look like paper or film.
- A texture on the background: click an empty part of the page, then open Gradients and patterns in the bar at the top. Under Textures, pick Grain, Paper or Speckles. A shape also has Grunge, which looks like an old, worn print. It goes on top of the gradient or pattern you have, or on the page color if you have none.
- A texture on a shape: open Fill and pick one under Texture. Move Strength to make it softer or stronger. No texture takes it away.
- A real paper, cloth or wall photo: open Photos and press Textures. Click one and it fills the page. See Photos.
The saved picture has the same gradient, pattern and texture as the page.
Shapes and icons
Open Shapes on the left. Under the plain shapes are more groups:
- Shapes: triangles, polygons, half circles, arches, rings, hearts, clouds and more.
- Stars and badges: stars, sparkles, price bursts, seals, price tags, ribbons.
- Arrows and lines: arrows, double arrows, curved arrows and lines with an arrow or a dot.
- Hand drawn: lines that look drawn with a pen. Arrows, lines under a word, circles around a word, brackets, stars, sparkles, hearts, boxes, checks and crosses, wavy lines and highlighter strokes. Type in Search drawings to find one, in English or Swedish, like arrow or pil.
- Speech bubbles and Blobs.
- Edges and waves: a wave, small waves, a curve, a slant, hills, scallops and torn paper. Click one and it goes across the whole page at the bottom. Drag it up, or flip it, to use it at the top.
- Icons: more than 150 simple icons for shops, food, beauty, fitness, events, time and place. Type in Search icons to find one by its name, like gift or coffee. Common words in Swedish work too, like kaffe.
Want more icons? Use the menu above the search box to pick a style:
- Pick Phosphor, Tabler or Material. Each comes with lines, filled, and for Phosphor two tones.
- Wait a second the first time. The icons load once and then stay.
- Type a word to find the one you want, then click it.
That gives you more than 15,000 icons. They change color with your brand like the simple ones.
Click one and it lands in the middle of the page in your brand's accent color. Drag a corner to make it bigger: it keeps its shape. Drag a side to stretch it. A shape gets a fill and a line in the bar at the top, an icon gets one color. Stroke style picks the line: none, solid, long dashes, short dashes or dots, and how thick it is. Pick a style on a shape with no line and it gets one in the first brand color that stands out from the fill, else black or white. An arrow or a line with a dot from Arrows and lines, or a thin bar from a design made before lines came, has no Stroke style: it gets its thickness in the bar. Both follow your brand when you pick a brand color, and both can flip, turn and take a copied style. The icons are from Lucide, Phosphor, Tabler and Google Material Symbols, and free to use in your posts.
QR code
Put a QR code on a flyer, a poster or a post, so people can open your page with their phone camera.
- Press QR code on the left.
- Type the web address. Your website is filled in to start with. A bare address like example.com gets https:// in front by itself.
- Pick Code color and Background from your brand colors, or turn on No background. Set Margin for the empty edge around the code.
- Press Add QR code. It lands in the middle of the page. Drag a corner to make it bigger.
To change it later, click the code and press Edit QR code in the bar. Colors and margin change at once; type a new address and press Update. The code is drawn as sharp shapes, so it stays crisp at every size, in the editor and in the saved picture. Phones read a dark code on a light background best, so scan it once before you post. When you press Apply brand or Shuffle, the code keeps colors a phone can read: if the new colors are too close, it turns to your brand's dark text color on its light paper. A shadow from Effects stays on the code in the saved picture too.
Charts
Show your numbers as a chart: sales by month, where your customers come from, how close you are to a goal.
- Press Shapes on the left and scroll to Charts.
- Pick one: Column, Bar, Line, Pie, Donut, Progress ring or Big number. It lands in the middle of the page with example numbers, and the chart panel opens.
- Type your own labels and values in the table under Data. Press Add row for more, up to 12. The trash can removes a row.
- Put a sign before or after each value, like $ or %, with Before value and After value.
- Turn Show labels and Show values on or off.
- Pick how numbers are written under Number format: 1,250 / 3.5 or 1 250 / 3,5. A new chart follows the language of the app. If your keyboard types a comma for decimals, 3,5 is read as three and a half.
The chart starts in your brand's accent color, with your brand's other colors on the slices of a pie or a donut, and its words in your brand's body font. Change Chart color, Slice colors (your brand colors or shades of the chart color), Text color and Font in the same panel. Chart type switches between the kinds and keeps your numbers. A progress ring fills up to the number you type, out of 100.
Drag a corner or a side to make a chart bigger, wider or taller: the bars, slices and words fit the new size by themselves. To change it later, click the chart and press Edit chart in the bar. On a phone, tap Add, then Shape, and pick a chart: the chart sheet opens to type the numbers. Later, tap the chart and then Edit chart. A chart looks the same in the editor, in the saved picture and in a video, shadow included.
Brand and Shuffle leave a chart's text color and slice colors as you set them, so its words stay easy to read. A chart in an infographic template takes your brand's colors when you press Apply brand, until you pick a color of your own for it.
#### Infographic templates
The Infographics category in the template picker has templates built on charts and numbers: one big number with its source, a progress ring, "3 out of 4" with a row of icons, column, bar, line and donut charts, numbered steps, a timeline, two columns to compare (before and after, free or paid, on your own or with a coach), a checklist, a grid of numbers, and carousels with one number or chart on each page. Search for infographic, stats, chart, numbers or steps to find them.
The charts in them are real charts: click one and press Edit chart to type your own numbers. Labels come in your brand's language, and in Swedish the numbers are written 1 250,5. Paste style gives a chart the color, opacity, shadow and blend of the shape you copied, and Flip does not mirror a chart.
Lines
Lines in Shapes has a line, a dashed line, an arrow, a double arrow, an elbowed arrow and a curved arrow. Press L to add a line too. A new line lands in the middle of the page in your text color.
- Click the line to pick it. It gets a round handle at each end.
- Drag an end to put it anywhere. The other end stays where it is. Hold Shift to keep the line at steps of 45 degrees.
- Drag the line itself to move it.
Position shows the line's Length and Line weight instead of width and height, so a new weight keeps the line where it is. The bar at the top has the line's Color, Line style (solid, long dashes, short dashes or dots, the weight from 1 to 100, and Rounded ends), Line start and Line end, and Line type. The ends can be an arrow, a triangle, a circle, a square or a diamond, each filled or with an outline, a bar, or nothing. Swap line ends puts the start's end on the end and the other way round. Line type makes the line straight, elbowed or curved. An elbowed or curved line goes across and then up or down, the way the page runs, so it bends nicely between any two points. The saved picture draws the line exactly as you see it.
Text in a shape
- Click a shape to pick it.
- Click it again, or double click it, and start typing. The words sit in the middle of the shape and wrap at its sides. A square or circle added with R or C is ready to type in right away.
- Click anywhere in the shape to put the cursor there. Press Escape or click outside the shape when you are done. Leave without typing and the shape stays as it was.
The text gets a color that reads on the shape, and your brand font. While you type, the bar shows the font, size, color, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, capitals and how the lines line up, after the shape's own tools. They stay in the bar as long as the shape has text. You can set the size and the font before the first letter. The words in a shape have one style: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough and the color go to all of them, not only the words you picked, and their names in the bar say so. When the words need more room, after typing or after you change the font, size or bold, the shape grows taller and its top stays where it was. Make the shape thin and the words wait: make it taller again and they are back. In another size of the design, the words grow and shrink with the shape. Turn the shape and the text turns with it. Flip it and the text stays readable. Empty the text and the shape stays, without words. Icons and hand-drawn lines take no text.
A hand-drawn line gets one color, like an icon. Make it bigger and the pen gets thicker. Stretch it only wider and the pen stays the same. A highlighter comes in half see-through, so drag it over a word and the word still shows. The drawings were made with Rough.js and are free to use in your posts.
When the brand is locked
The owner of a workspace can lock the brand under Settings, Brand kit (Studio and Agency plans). Then a line at the top of the editor says what is locked, like "Your workspace locks fonts and colors to the brand". Close it with the X.
- Fonts: the font panel shows only the brand's heading and body fonts. A text you add or change, like a font combination, a pasted text or a text in a template, gets a brand font.
- Colors: every color setting shows only the brand colors. Custom, In this design and the default colors are gone.
- Logo: the logo stays where it is. You cannot move, resize or delete it. Click it and the line at the top says why.
- Text fits its box: a text you change gets smaller to fit its box. A text that grows with its words keeps growing.
Apply brand and Shuffle still work. The owner is not locked and can change everything.
Layers, groups and locks
Layers lists everything on the page, top first, under Position. Open it with Layers on the left, Position in the bar, Layers in the bar when the page is picked, the right-click menu or Alt+1. Each row has a small picture of its layer, and when you point at a row, that layer gets an outline on the page. All shows everything. Overlapping shows only what lies over or under the layer you picked. The page's background is the last row: click it to pick the page. Drag a row to change the order. Double click a name to rename it. The eye hides a layer, which also leaves it out of the saved picture. The lock stops a layer from moving.
Group layers with Cmd+G to move them as one. Click a group to pick it, and click one part of it again to pick just that part. A double click on a part types in the text or crops the photo right away. Press Escape to go back to the whole group, and Escape again to pick nothing. In a template, parts that belong together are already a group: a price sticker, a date block, a number on its dot and the stars of a review.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Keys | What happens |
|---|---|
| Arrow keys | Move 1 pixel. With Shift, 10 pixels. |
| Cmd+Z | Undo. Shift+Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Y redoes. Both go to the page they change, so you see what comes back. |
| Cmd+C, Cmd+V | Copy and paste. Each paste lands a little further down. Text from another app becomes a new text. |
| Cmd+D | Make a copy, a little down and to the right. With nothing picked, copy the page. |
| Alt and drag | Drag a copy and leave the layer where it was. |
| T, R, C, L | Add a text, a square, a circle or a line in the middle of the page. The text, square and circle are ready to type in. The line has a round handle at each end. |
| Alt+Cmd+C, Alt+Cmd+V | Copy style and paste style. |
| Cmd+B, Cmd+I, Cmd+U | Bold, italic or underline. On a picked text it changes the whole text. While you type, it changes the picked words. |
| Shift+F10 | Open the right-click menu for what is picked. |
| Delete | Remove what is picked. |
| Cmd+G | Group. Shift+Cmd+G ungroups. |
| Alt+Shift+L | Lock what is picked. Press again and it can move again. |
| Cmd+A | Pick everything on the page that is not locked or hidden. |
| Cmd+] and Cmd+[ | Bring forward and send backward. With Alt, all the way to the front or the back. Does your keyboard make brackets with Alt, like a Swedish or German one? Then Cmd with the bracket is one step, and Shift added goes all the way. |
| Alt+1 | Show Layers (under Position). |
| Cmd+Enter | Add a page after this one. |
| Enter | Type in the picked text or shape, or crop the picked photo. |
| Escape | Close Font, Color, Effects or Position on the left first. Then stop typing, cancel a crop, go from one part of a group back to the group, then pick nothing. It never closes the editor. |
| Space and drag | Move around the page. |
| Cmd+plus, Cmd+minus | Zoom in and out. Shift+1 fits the page. |
In a video these keys work too:
| Keys | What happens |
|---|---|
| Space, tapped | Play or pause. Held and dragged, it still moves around the page. |
| Comma and period | One frame back or forward. With Shift, one second. |
| Alt+Left, Alt+Right | The start of the page before or after. |
| Home, End | The start or the end of the video. |
| M | Mute the music in the preview. The saved video keeps it. |
| Escape | Stop playing and edit the page under the playhead. |
On Windows, use Ctrl where it says Cmd. Click an empty part of the page and Keyboard in the bar shows the same keys while you work.
Zoom
The page fits the screen when the editor opens. Hold Cmd and scroll, or pinch on a trackpad, to zoom where the pointer is. Scroll to move around. At the bottom right:
- The Zoom slider goes from 10 to 500 percent. The slider moves evenly: going from 50 to 100 percent takes as far as going from 100 to 200.
- The percent opens a menu with 300, 200, 125, 100, 75, 50, 25 and 10 percent, Fit and Fill. Fit shows the whole page. Fill makes the page as big as the screen allows without an empty side, and some of the page may go past the edges.
- The - and + zoom out and in.
The handles keep the same size at every zoom.
On a phone
On a screen under 768 pixels wide, the page fills the width and there are no handles, so nothing moves by accident.
- Tap a layer and its settings open in a sheet at the bottom. The page stays in view above it, so you see each change.
- Under Position you line a layer up with the page or move it 10 pixels at a time.
- For a photo, Move photo lets you drag the picture inside its frame, and Zoom makes it bigger.
- Fill in lists the parts a template asks for (headline, price, photo and so on), each with how many letters fit well. Type the words there and replace a photo with one of yours.
- The bar at the bottom also has Add, Shuffle, Brand, Sizes and Layers. Undo, Redo, Pages and Share sit at the top.
- Add puts text, a photo, a shape, a frame, a sticker, your logo or a layout on the page. Stickers open the same sets and search as on a computer, and a tap puts one in the middle of the page.
- A text's color in its sheet changes the whole text, also words colored on a computer. To make one word bold or another color, use a computer.
- Sizes shows every size and lets you tick the ones to save. Moving things in one size only is done on a computer. If Save finds something to fix in another size, Fix picks that part here, and you fix that size on a computer.
Your work is kept
The editor keeps your design as a draft while you work, a second or so after each change. The top of the editor says when it is kept. Close the editor, reload the page or lose the connection for a moment, and nothing is lost.
Open Design in the menu, or Create image again, and press My designs: your drafts are in Continue where you left off. Each one shows when you last changed it. Throw one away with the bin on its card. You keep up to five drafts in each workspace, and the oldest goes when you start a sixth. Designs made with Use the whole set do not count toward the five and never go on their own. However a draft is made, one person never has more than 50 in a workspace: past that the top of the editor says Not kept as a draft, and you delete some on the Design page.
Your teammates can see your designs in progress, and you can see theirs. They are under Your team is working on in My designs on the Design page, with who made each one and when it last changed. Only the person who made a draft can change or delete it. Pick a teammate's design and press Make a copy to work on your own copy. Their design stays as it is.
Press Save and the editor makes the pictures and removes the draft.
Version history
The editor also keeps earlier versions of each design, so you can go back to how it looked before. A version is kept when you save, when you close the editor, and every 10 minutes while you work. Nothing is kept when nothing changed.
- Press Version history at the top of the editor.
- The list on the right shows each version by day, with the time, who made it and how many pages it has.
- Click a version to see it on the page. Nothing changes while you look. Use the arrows under the page to see its other pages.
- Press Restore this version to make it your design again. What you had is one Undo away, and the restored design is kept as a new version.
- Or press Make a copy to open the version as a new design. The design you were working on stays as it is.
Everyone in the workspace can see a design's versions. Postfjord keeps the last 30 versions of each design. Very large designs keep fewer, so a design never takes too much room. Versions do not count toward your workspace's storage.
Comments
Leave a note for your team right on the design, like "Make the logo bigger" or "Can we use the summer photo here?".
- Press Comments at the top of the editor. The number on it is how many comments are still open.
- Press Add a comment, then click the spot on the page where it goes. Or pick a layer and press Comment on the selected layer: the pin stays on that layer when you move it. You can also right-click the page or a layer and pick Comment.
- Write your note and press Comment. Type @ to mention a teammate and pick them from the list.
- A pin with your initials shows on the page. Click any pin to open its comment, read the replies and write one.
- Press Resolve when it is done. Resolved comments move to the Resolved tab, and Reopen brings one back.
For you lists the open comments where someone mentioned you. You can change or delete your own comments with the pencil and the bin. Delete the first comment of a thread and its replies go with it.
Everyone in the workspace can read and write comments on a design. Each comment shows the name of the teammate who wrote it. Comments stay with the design when you save it, and a teammate who opens the saved design sees them too. They show only in the editor: a saved picture, a video or a download never has them. A design holds up to 300 comments, replies included. When you delete a design from Media, its comments go too.
On a phone, press the speech bubble at the top to read the comments, reply and resolve them. Add a comment there goes on the layer you picked, or in the middle of the page. Pins show on a computer only.
Share, download and post
Share at the top right opens Share design: round buttons, one for each thing you can do with a finished design.
- Save puts the pictures in Media, under Designs. It says how many, for example Save 4 pictures. On a video it is Save video.
- New post opens a new post with the pictures in it. A design with several pages opens as a carousel. In a post you already started, press Choose media, open Designs and tap the design: all its pages go in, in order.
- Email opens a new email draft with each page as a picture. You see it when email is on for your workspace.
- Landing page shows your pages. Pick the page the design goes on, or make a new one, and it goes in as a picture under the page's first block.
When your design is not wide, Email and Landing page first ask which picture you want. More on it below.
- Advertise on Meta opens an ad with the page you are looking at, or the video. Claude suggests three ad texts from the words on your design. You see it when ads are on for your workspace.
- Download gives you a file. More on it below.
- Copy picture (Copy this page on a design with several pages) puts the page on the clipboard, so you can paste it into a chat, an email or another app. If your browser does not allow it, use Download.
- Send to phone (on a phone) makes a picture of the page you are looking at and opens your phone's share menu, so you can post it from Instagram, TikTok, Messenger or another app. More on it below.
New post, Email, Landing page and Advertise on Meta save the design in Media first. Download, Copy and Send to phone add nothing to Media. New post, Email, Landing page and Advertise on Meta show on the Design page and in Media. When you design from a post, Save already puts the pictures in that post.
A wide banner for an email or a landing page
The top of an email or a landing page wants a wide picture. When your design is square, tall or a story, Email and Landing page ask first:
- Press Share, then Email or Landing page.
- Pick one:
- Keep it as it is: the email or page gets your design at the size it has now. - Make a wide banner: Postfjord adds a wide size to your design, the way Sizes does, and uses that picture. For an email it is the size closest to 3:1 (Facebook cover, 1640 × 624 px). For a landing page it is 16:9 (1200 × 675 px). A design for an email gets the email header or banner size instead.
- Postfjord saves the design to Media, with every size, and opens the email or the landing pages as before.
Your design itself does not change. The wide size stays in Sizes, where you can fix it later. A design can have 4 sizes at most: when it has 4 already, untick one in Sizes first. A wide design (16:9 or a banner) skips the question.
Download
Press Download and pick:
- File type: the list shows what each one is for. JPG is best for sharing. PNG is best for illustrations and see-through backgrounds, and it is the one we suggest. PDF is best for printing, with one page each; LinkedIn also takes a PDF as a document carousel.
- Pages: all of them, this page, or the ones you choose. On a computer, several JPGs or PNGs come in one ZIP file.
- Size: from half to three times the design's size. The size in pixels shows next to it, for example 3240 × 4050 px for a print.
- See-through background (PNG only): the page color is left out, so only what is on the page shows.
Then press Download. Under it, Post it straight from Postfjord saves the design and opens a new post with it.
A video downloads as an MP4. It is made in Media, so it is saved there first.
#### GIF
Pick GIF under File type to get a short loop that plays everywhere, without sound.
- A video becomes a GIF of its first 15 seconds.
- A design with more pages becomes a slideshow: the pages play one after the other, in 15 seconds at most.
Press Download. Postfjord makes the GIF and it downloads by itself when it is ready, usually within a minute. You can keep working meanwhile. The GIF is at most 720 pixels wide and is saved in Media too, so you can download it again there. A GIF counts against your daily designs the same way a video does. GIF is on every plan where you can make videos.
On a phone, a JPG or PNG goes to your Photos, as in Canva:
- Press Download.
- Your phone's share menu opens with one picture for each page, in page order. No ZIP file.
- Tap Save images (on an iPhone it says how many, for example Save 3 Images).
The pictures are now in Photos. Nothing is added to Media. If you close the share menu, nothing is saved. Sometimes the phone asks you to tap once more: press Share now. If your phone cannot do this, the file downloads as before. A PDF or an MP4 downloads as before on every device.
Send to phone
Want to post from Instagram itself, with music or a sticker? Do it on your phone:
- Open the design in Postfjord on your phone.
- Press Share, then Send to phone.
- Your phone's share menu opens. Pick Instagram (Post, Story or Reel), TikTok, Messenger or another app.
- Add music, tags and words in that app, and post from there.
Postfjord sends the page you are looking at as a picture, at the design's own size. Nothing is added to Media. If you close the share menu, nothing is sent and your design stays open. Sometimes the phone asks you to tap once more: press Share now. Videos cannot be sent this way yet. Download the MP4 instead.
If your phone's browser or app cannot hand a picture to other apps, the button does not show: use Download there. On a computer the button is Open on phone. It shows a link to the Design page with Copy link. Open the link on your phone, pick your design and press Send to phone there.
Mockups
See your design on something real before you post it: a phone, a laptop, a framed poster, a tote bag, a mug, a book, a shop window or a billboard.
- Press Share, then Mockups.
- Pick a scene on the right. Each one already shows your page, so you can compare them at a glance. Screens, Print and Signs narrow the list.
- The scene you picked shows big on the left. Your page sits on it at the right angle, and on print scenes the paper or cloth shows through, as ink would.
- Press Download for a JPG, or Save to Media to use it in a post.
The page fills the screen or print area. If its shape is different, the edges are cut evenly, as with a photo in a frame. A design with more pages has a Page list. The file is 1.5 times the scene photo, about 1920 px wide, and looks the same as the preview. Nothing is added to Media until you press Save to Media. Mockups are pictures only, so the tile does not show for a video. Each mockup counts as one design picture of the day, like a download.
Downloads on the Free plan
On Free, a download is the design's own size at most, for example 1080 × 1080 px for a square post, and never see-through. JPG, PNG and PDF all work. A small crown marks Size and See-through background: move Size past the design's size, or switch on See-through, and a card shows what the paid plans add, with See plans. Every paid plan downloads up to three times the size and see-through PNGs.
A saved design you open again and do not change is not saved a second time: New post and the others use the pictures already in Media. A download is at most 20 MB. In the Postfjord app on a phone, a PDF or MP4 download opens the share sheet, where you can save the file to Files.
A DM for a comment word
Does a page say Comment BOOK below, Type YES in the comments, Kommentera BOK or Skriv BOK i kommentarerna? Then people will comment that word and wait for something. The editor sees the word when it is in capitals or in quotes, and a small bar shows under the top bar: Comments with BOOK can get a DM.
- Press Set up the DM.
- Change the DM text if you like, and paste the link they get.
- Pick the Instagram or Facebook account. With more than one, you can pick all of them.
- Press Save the DM.
The automation is saved and switched on, but it only answers the post you make from this design. Press Share, then New post, and the post has it. If you opened the editor from a post, the post gets it right away. If an automation already answers that word, the bar says so, with Open.
Live preview opens a phone next to the canvas with page 1 as the post. Type a comment and press Post. With the word, the phone shows the reply under the comment and then the DM with the link. Without it, nothing follows. It is only a preview: nothing is sent and nothing is saved.
No Instagram or Facebook account yet? The bar says so, with Connect. Viewers do not see the bar. How the automation works: Set it up from a design.
Some templates already ask for a word, so the bar shows as soon as you open them: Comment GUIDE on the quick win carousel, Comment LIST on a checklist, Comment PRICING on the pricing tips, and more. Change the word in the picture if you like. The bar follows it.
A caption to start from
Press Share, then New post, on a design made from a template, and the post's text starts with a short caption. It takes the headline on your first page and the ending on your last page, with your business name and website filled in. Does the design ask for a comment word? Then the caption says it too, for example "Comment GUIDE and we send you the full guide in a DM". You changed the word in the picture? The caption uses your word.
The caption is only a start. Change it or delete it in the post before you schedule. A design you made yourself, without a template, opens an empty post.
Your saved designs
The Design page shows your saved designs in My designs, under Saved designs: the newest 12, and Show all for the rest. Click one to open it again. The ... on a design has Schedule a post, which opens a new post with every page of the design in order, as a carousel, Duplicate, which opens a copy you can change and save as a new design, and Delete, which removes every page and size of it. A design that a scheduled post uses is not deleted: take it out of the post first.
In Media the designs have their own tab, Designs, next to Uploads, so the photos and videos you put in are not mixed with what you made. The picture picker in posts, emails and landing pages has the same two tabs.
Open a saved design again
Every design you save keeps its text, shapes and photos with it. Open it again:
- on the Design page, in My designs under Saved designs (the newest 12; press See all in Media for the rest)
- with Edit design in Media, on the picture's details
- in the media picker, when the last picture you picked is a design
- in a post, on the small pen on the picture
A carousel opens with all its pages. Saving makes new pictures and keeps the old ones, so a post that already uses them does not change. In a post, the new pictures take the place of the old ones.
If you changed a saved design and closed the editor without saving, Edit design asks whether to go on with those changes or open the design as it was saved.
Brand kit
Your brand colors, uploaded fonts and logo are one click away. Each color setting shows your brand colors first, then In this design with the colors the design already uses, then Custom.
Pick a font
Pick a text, then click the font name at the left of the bar at the top. The fonts open in a panel on the left, and every font shows its name written in that font.
- Type in Search fonts to find a font by its name, or by a word like serif or script.
- Or pick a type: Modern, Elegant, Bold, Playful, Handwritten or Retro.
- Click a font. Your text changes right away, and the panel stays open so you can click the next one. Scrolling the list never changes your text.
- Close the panel with the X when you like what you see. Undo takes you back to the font you had.
On a phone, tap a text, then tap the font name under the text. The fonts open under the page. Tap a font and your text changes right away. Tap the arrow to go back to the text, or the X when you are done.
Your brand's heading and body fonts come first, then the fonts you used last on this device, then your own uploaded fonts. There are over 220 free fonts to pick from. You will find tall narrow fonts for big headlines, fine serifs for a calm look, brush and pen scripts, pixel and neon fonts and more. Search for a word like condensed, slab, brush or pixel to find them. All mixes the types, so a script font sits next to a bold one and a serif. The first time anyone uses a font, it can take a second before the page shows it.
Font combinations
Open Text on the left. Under Add a text box and the buttons for a heading, a subheading and body text are Font combinations: a heading with a line or a label that goes with it, in fonts that look good together. Some have an effect or a curve.
- Click a combination. It lands in the middle of the page, in your brand colors.
- Double-click a text in it to change the words.
- The texts are grouped, so they move together. Click once more inside the group to pick one text, or Ungroup to split them.
The first two use your own brand fonts. The others use free fonts from the library, and the first time one is used it can take a moment while its fonts load.
There are about 60, in groups: Your brand, Elegant, Modern, Bold, Retro and groovy, Script accents and Editorial. In some, a handwritten word sits across the bottom of the heading, like Magic with dreams. Click once more inside the group to move that word on its own.
Looking for one? Type in the search box at the top, like sale, Playfair or retro. It finds combinations by their words, their fonts and their group.
Text effects
Pick a text, then click Effects in the bar at the top. A panel opens on the left with a small picture of each effect in your text's own font.
- Click an effect: Shadow, Lift, Hollow, Splice, Outline, Echo, Glitch, Neon, 3D or Gradient. Your text changes right away.
- Change it with the sliders under the pictures, like how far the shadow falls, which way, and how soft it is. Some effects also have a color.
- Background puts a color behind the text, with rounded corners. It works together with any effect.
- None takes the effect and the background away.
Under the effects, Shape bends the text. Click Curve, then drag the slider: to the right the words arch up, to the left they bend down like a smile, and all the way gets close to a circle. The box follows the curve, and the effects work on curved text too. Click None under Shape to make it straight again. Curved text has no underline, strikethrough or list: those buttons are off while the text is curved.
If an effect's color is one of your brand colors, it follows your brand: Apply brand and Shuffle change it with the rest.
3D gives the letters depth, like blocks seen from the side. Depth sets how far back they go and Direction which way. The side is a darker shade of your text color, or pick your own.
Gradient lets your text color run into a second color across the words. Pick the second color and turn Direction to run it across, down or at an angle.
A text has one effect at a time: click another and it takes the place of the first. Each click is one step for Undo. The saved picture shows the effect exactly as the editor does. Neon looks best on a dark background, and a shadow or lift on a light one.
On a phone, tap a text, then tap Effects under the font name.
The two default fonts are Inter for sans and Lora for serif. The editor and the saved picture use the same font files, so line breaks land in the same place.
One design, every size
A story, a feed post and a LinkedIn post each need their own size. Make the design once and save it in all of them.
- Press Sizes at the top. You see square, portrait, story and landscape. Opened from a post, the sizes your channels need are already ticked, with each channel's icon.
- Tick the sizes you want. Each one shows the design moved to fit that size, with a note when something needs a look. Text on a box of its own moves with its box.
- Click a size to open it on the page. The bar at the top says which size you are in. Move or resize things there, and only that size changes. Text, colors and fonts stay the same in every size: change a word in any size and every size shows it.
- In a story size, the striped bands at the top and bottom show where the app's own buttons cover the picture. Keep words out of them.
Add new parts and pages in the main size, the one with Main size beside it. In another size you can move, resize and hide. Reset this size puts a size back to the automatic layout, or for a template, back to the template's own layout for that size. Make main size makes another size the main one; the others keep their look.
Save makes every ticked size at once and says how many pictures that is, for example Save 6 pictures for a carousel of 2 pages in 3 sizes. Before it saves, it checks every size. If some text does not fit, sits under a story's buttons, is too small to read or is partly off the page, you see a short list. Fix opens that size and picks the part, and Save anyway saves as it is.
From a post, each channel gets its size: the story gets the story picture and the feed gets the feed picture. A channel that already has its own pictures keeps them. If a saved picture has text that did not fit, or something under a story's buttons, the post shows a note about it. It never stops the post. The pen on a picture, also on a channel's own pictures, opens the whole design again in every size.
Templates and pages
Templates on the left opens the same templates as the start, next to your design. Click one to see it large, then:
- Replace this page puts the template on the page you are on. Changed something on the page? The editor asks first. A page with a template you did not change yet is swapped at once, so you can try one after another.
- Add as new page puts the template's pages after the page you are on.
The template takes your design's size and your brand. Each swap is one step, so Undo takes it back. A design holds up to 10 pages, and a video up to 20.
Above the top right corner of the page are three small buttons:
- Lock page locks everything on the page, so nothing moves by mistake. Press it again to take the page lock off. What you locked one by one before stays locked. Something you add to a locked page can still move.
- Duplicate page puts a copy of the page right after it.
- Add page puts an empty page right after it.
Under the page, a bar as wide as the page says Add page and does the same. In a video, add scenes on the timeline instead.
Save any page as a template for the workspace with Save as template. It keeps the template photos but not your own photos. Your templates are under Saved. Add, copy, remove and drag pages at the bottom to make a carousel of up to 10 pages.
Make a video
A design can be a video: your pages play one after the other, each for as long as you say, and the pages can glide into each other. Video is open to testers first. If you do not see Make it a video, it is not open for your workspace yet.
- Start one: pick Reel or story video 9:16, Video 16:9 or Square video 1:1 on the start screen, or press Make it a video next to the pages under a design you already have. Back to pictures in the timeline turns it back. The lengths and transitions are kept.
- The timeline sits under the page. Each page is a tile as long as the page shows. Click a tile to edit that page. Drag a tile to move the page. Drag its right edge to change how long it shows: steps of 0.1 seconds, or half seconds with Shift. The round transition button on the edge drags the same way, and a click on it opens Transitions. The ... on a tile has Duplicate, Delete, Add a page after, the length as a number and Use this length for every page. The plus at the end adds a page. On a phone, swipe the timeline to scroll it, and tap a tile for its length, Move earlier and Move later.
- Play (or Space) plays the video on the page. Drag on the ruler or the red playhead to go to any moment. Click the page to go back to editing the page under the playhead.
- A video is at most 90 seconds and 20 pages. A page shows for 0.5 to 30 seconds, 5 if you do not change it. The timeline tells you when you reach a limit.
Video templates
The video templates are 7 to 15 seconds long. Words slam in, a number counts up, a price drops, a clock ticks down, a coupon tears, polaroids drop onto a pile, a chat types out, a poll fills and stars light up for a review. There are templates for all eight kinds of business, in story, wide and square sizes.
- On the start screen, press the video picture next to Kind to see only video templates. Each card has a play mark and its length.
- Rest the pointer on a card, or tab to it, and it plays. Click it and the video plays large.
- Press Use template. It opens as a video in the editor, with its scenes as pages on the timeline.
- Change the words and photos to yours. The movement stays, because it belongs to the pages. Start on the first page: a word or photo you change there changes on the next pages too, where they still showed the same thing. A page you already changed keeps what you gave it.
- Press Save video to make the MP4.
Video templates are on the start screen only where video is open for your workspace. They are not in the Templates panel inside the editor, since a video's scenes do not fit into a picture design.
Transitions
The round button between two tiles picks how one page changes into the next. Rest the pointer on a transition and the page plays it over and over, so you can compare. On a phone, a tap picks it and plays it once.
| Transition | What you see |
|---|---|
| None | A straight cut to the next page. |
| Dissolve | The next page fades in over this one. |
| Slide | Both pages slide along together. Pick the direction. |
| Circle wipe | The next page opens from the middle in a growing circle. |
| Color wipe | A band of your color sweeps across and leaves the next page. |
| Line wipe | A thin line sweeps across and shows the next page behind it. |
| Match and move | The same layers glide from one page to the next. |
| Flow | Both pages travel along with a small gap between them. |
| Stack | The next page slides in on top while this one sinks back. |
| Chop | This page splits in two and the halves slide apart. |
Set the length (0.1 to 2.5 seconds) and, where it fits, the direction, the color or the easing. Use on every page puts the same transition between all pages in one step. A transition plays at the end of the page before it, so it never makes the video longer. After a short page it plays faster, and the panel says so.
Match and move
Match and move is how a shape grows, travels and turns from one page to the next. It pairs the layers that are the same on both pages: their place, size, turn and color glide over. A layer that is only on one page fades in or out.
To set it up, make the next page with Duplicate, then move, resize, turn or recolor things on the copy. Duplicate keeps the pair, so each layer finds itself on the next page. Copy and paste between pages keeps it too. A copy made on the same page is a new layer. Text that changes its words blinks over in place.
A group moves as one, and it turns around its own middle. Build a wheel as a group, duplicate the page and turn the wheel: the pieces travel on the circle instead of cutting across it, and an icon that stays upright on both pages stays upright while it orbits. While the Transitions panel is open, the page shows where each moving layer comes from, and Layers says Moves from page 3, Fades in or Fades out.
A layer turns the short way. To turn the long way, or a full turn extra, pick the layer on the page it moves to, open Animate and set Turn under When it moves here.
Animations
Pick a layer or a group and press Animate. Fade, Rise, Pop, Wipe, Slide, Typewriter, Spin and Breathe can play as the layer comes in, as it goes out, or both. Set the speed, a wait before it starts, the direction for Slide and Wipe, and how it moves. Animate the whole page gives every layer the same animation, one after the other from the top. Remove animation takes it off. If the page ends before the animation is done, the layer never shows in full, and the panel says so: pick a faster speed, wait less first or make the page longer. Once you move a layer's bar in the timeline, the bar says when it starts, and the wait is gone from the panel.
Words and letters that move
A text can come in one word or one letter at a time.
- Pick a text and press Animate.
- Click Fade, Rise, Pop, Slide, Spin or Breathe.
- Under Move, pick Word by word or Letter by letter. All at once moves the whole text again.
The speed you pick sets how fast the words follow each other. Wipe and Typewriter always move the whole text, and so does curved text.
Count up makes the numbers in a text count from 0, like "Over 1,250 members". It keeps your commas, dots and decimals. As the text goes out, the numbers count down again.
Loops
A loop keeps a layer moving the whole time it shows, for as long as the page lasts.
- Pick a layer and press Animate.
- Under Loop, click Wave, Bounce, Jelly, Pulse, Shake or Float. Rest the mouse on one to see it first.
- Set the speed and How much it moves.
- On a text, Move sets whether the whole text loops, each word or each letter. A wave by letter runs along the words.
A loop goes with an animation: a text can rise in letter by letter and then keep waving. Click None under Loop to stop it. Loops only play in a video. A picture shows the layer at rest.
When each layer shows
Under the page tiles, the timeline has a row for each layer on the page you are editing: texts first, then photos and shapes. A bar shows when the layer is on screen. A long list of layers folds into N more layers.
- Drag a bar to move when the layer shows.
- Drag the left end to change when it comes, and the right end to change when it goes. The ends snap to 0.1 seconds, to the other bars and to the playhead.
- Click a bar to pick the layer on the page. Pick a layer on the page and its bar lights up.
- With the keyboard, tab to a bar and use the arrow keys: 0.1 seconds a press, 1 second with Shift.
A layer with an animation plays it in where its bar starts and plays it out where its bar ends. Undo takes back a whole drag in one step.
In turn makes the words come one after another, top to bottom, like 01, 02, 03, 04. Pick how long each one stays: Each stays to the end keeps them all on until the page ends, and Each goes when the next comes swaps one for the next. It uses every text on the page, or the layers you picked when you picked two or more. On a phone, tap a bar to pick it before you drag it. Its ends drag right away.
Music
Add music under the timeline opens the Music panel. Pick a song from Media or upload an mp3, m4a, aac or wav file of up to 25 MB. Use music you have the right to use. Then set where in the video it starts, where in the song it starts, the volume and a fade in and out of up to 5 seconds. Drag the music under the timeline to move where it starts. The preview plays the music with the video. M mutes the preview only. Any song in Media works, also one you uploaded long ago.
Sync to beat
Postfjord listens to your music and finds its beat. Small ticks along the music under the timeline show each beat.
- Open the Music panel and turn on Sync to beat.
- Every page change moves to the nearest beat. Your video keeps its length: the last page takes up the difference.
- Turn on Layers too to also move layers that come in later, so they start on a beat. Layers that are there from the start stay put.
- Move or trim the music, or add, copy, remove or move a page while it is on, and the page changes follow the new beats. With a transition, the transition starts on the beat.
- Turn Sync to beat off to get your own page lengths and layer starts back. A length or layer time you set by hand while it was on stays as you set it.
Press Cmd+Z to undo it in one step. Music with no steady beat, like a spoken track, has nothing to sync to, and the panel says so. Picking a new song or removing the music gives your own lengths back first.
Video clips
A page can play a video of your own behind its text and pictures. Press Clip at the top of the timeline. Pick a video from Media or upload an MP4 or MOV, and it fills the page. The page then lasts as long as the clip, up to 30 seconds.
- Start in the clip picks where the page starts in your video.
- To cut the end, make the page shorter in the timeline.
- Fill the page crops the video to the page. Show it all shows the whole video with the page color around it.
- Keep the clip's sound plays its sound in the video, mixed with your music. Turn it off to hear only the music.
- Go on in a new page adds a page that plays the rest of a long video.
A small film mark on a tile shows which pages play a clip. Text, shapes, animations and transitions work on a clip page like on any page. In the editor, the clip plays on the page while you play the video. During a transition the preview shows the page color where the clip goes, and the saved video shows the clip.
Captions
Captions show the words people say, like in CapCut and Edits. Press Captions at the top of the timeline.
- Press Make captions. Postfjord listens to the part of the clip the page plays and writes down every word with the moment it is said. This uses your AI allowance, a little for each minute of sound. Make captions is on the paid plans, like the rest of AI in Design. On Free you see a note with a link to upgrade, and words a video already has can still be fixed and styled.
- Check the words. Click a word to fix it, or clear it to remove it.
- Pick a look: Highlight shows two lines and colors the word being said, One word shows one big word at a time, Box puts the words on a colored box, and Pop in adds the words as they are said.
- Pick where they sit (top, middle or bottom), the text color, the highlight color, your brand's heading or body font, the size and capitals.
On a 9:16 video, captions stay clear of the buttons and text that Reels, TikTok and Shorts put on top. Hide turns captions off and keeps the words. Captions show on the page while the video plays or while you drag the playhead. The captions in the saved video are the ones you see in the editor, letter for letter.
Cover
The cover is the picture people see before the video plays. Move the playhead to the moment you want and press Cover in the timeline. A round mark on the ruler shows it, and a click on the mark removes it. Media shows that picture, and Instagram Reels and TikTok use it as the cover when the video is posted. Other platforms pick their own cover. Without a cover, Media shows the first page once everything on it has come in, and Instagram and TikTok take a picture from the start of the video.
Text on a video
Text, logos and shapes on a page show for as long as the page does. To show a text for only part of a page, use Animate: set a wait before it comes in, and turn on Out to take it away before the page ends.
Save video
Save video makes an MP4 of the video. The answer comes at once and a bar shows how far it is. Most videos are ready in about 2 minutes, and they land in Media. Media shows the video's first page once everything on it has come in. You can keep working meanwhile. A video counts one picture for each page on the day's pictures, or one for each 5 seconds when that is more, and one video is made at a time per workspace. Your design stays a draft until the video is ready. If you change the design while the video is made, the video shows the design as it was when you pressed Save video, and your newer changes stay open as a draft.
The video keeps the design it was made from. Pick the video in Media and press Edit design to open its pages, timing and music again. Saving again makes a new video, and the first one stays. If something goes wrong while the video is made, Media says why. The pictures go back to the day's count only when the video never started, for example when the music was removed first. A video that takes more than about 12 minutes stops, and the editor says so.
Back to pictures on a video with more than 10 pages: pictures save at most 10 pages, so remove pages first, or turn the video back on.
How many pictures a day
Each page you save in each size is one picture. Free saves 50 a day, Solo 200, Studio 500, Agency 1,000 and Enterprise 2,000. The count starts again at midnight UTC. When the day's pictures are used, Save tells you, and your design stays as a draft.
FAQ
How do I make my video change pages on the beat?
Add music, open the Music panel and turn on Sync to beat. Every page change moves to the nearest beat of your song, and your video keeps its length. Turn on Layers too to start layers on a beat as well. Turn it off to get your own lengths back.
How do I add captions to a video?
Put the video on a page with Clip in the timeline, then press Captions and Make captions. Postfjord writes down the words with their timing. Fix any word, pick a look and save the video. The captions are part of the video file, so they show on every platform.
Do captions cost anything?
Making captions uses your plan's AI allowance, a little for each minute of sound. Fixing words, changing the look and saving the video again does not.
Why does my layer fade instead of moving?
Match and move only glides a layer it finds on both pages. Make the next page with Duplicate, or copy and paste the layer from the page before, then change it there. A layer you added fresh on the next page, or a copy made on the same page, is a new layer, so it fades in. A layer with an animation of its own also comes in by that animation. A layer that is still coming in when its page ends fades out instead of moving, and the Transitions panel says so: make its animation faster or the page longer. Layers shows Moves from page 3 on the layers that glide.
How do I make something turn the long way?
Pick the layer on the page it moves to, open Animate and under When it moves here set Turn to Clockwise or Counterclockwise. Extra turns adds up to three full turns. For a group, pick the whole group first.
Can I swap the template without starting over?
Yes. Open Templates on the left, click a template and press Replace this page. Your other pages stay. Undo brings the old page back.
How do I use a color that is not in the list?
Press the color in the bar, then the + under In this design. Drag in the square, slide along the colors or type the code. In Chrome and Edge the dropper picks a color from anywhere on your screen. You can also type the code in the search box.
Why does Paste style do nothing?
A style only goes to a layer of the same kind: a text style to a text, a shape style to a shape, a photo style to a photo, a line style to a line, and a page's background to another page. A locked layer keeps its own style.
Where is my photo cut out when I remove the background?
On Postfjord's own servers, in the same place as the rest of your media. The photo goes nowhere else and is not used to train anything. The finished cut-out is saved in your Media, like any photo you upload.
What resolution is the exported image?
A picture saved to Media is a JPEG at the format's own size: 1080 x 1080 for square, 1080 x 1350 for portrait, 1080 x 1920 for story and 1200 x 675 for landscape. That is what Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn show. Download can make it up to three times bigger on a paid plan. On Free a download is the format's own size.
Why does some text show in a plain font?
The editor draws your text with the same font files as the saved picture. If a font cannot load, for example on a bad connection, the editor says so at the top and shows that text in a plain font for now. Open the design again when the connection is back.
Can I use my own fonts?
Yes. Upload a TTF or OTF file under the brand kit and it appears in the font list. A workspace keeps up to 20 fonts of its own. Each one counts toward your storage, and deleting it frees the space.
How many photos can one page have?
Up to 8. The editor tells you when a page is full.
Can I edit a design after saving?
Yes. Press Edit design on the picture in Media, in the media picker or in a post. The text, shapes and photos are there as you left them. Saving makes new pictures and keeps the old ones.
What happens if I close the editor without saving?
Nothing is lost. The editor keeps your design as a draft. Open Design in the menu, press My designs and pick it under Continue where you left off.
Does a hidden layer show in the saved picture?
No. A hidden layer, or a layer in a hidden group, is left out of the picture.
Why did my text get smaller?
The text shrinks to fit its box, so long words do not spill over the edge. Make the box bigger or use fewer words. Or turn it off: open Spacing and set Shrink text to fit to Keep size.
How do I fix one size only?
Open Sizes, click the size, and move or resize things there. Only that size changes. Text and colors you change show in every size. Reset this size undoes all your fixes for that size.
Why do the colors change when I press Shuffle?
Shuffle tries another way to use your brand colors and fonts. It never uses colors that are not yours. Press Undo to go back, or press Shuffle again for the next look.
Why does Save say I have used today's pictures?
Each page you save in each size is one picture, and each plan makes a set number a day. Untick a size, remove a page, or save again after midnight UTC. Your design stays as a draft until then.
