Advertise turns a post you already published on Facebook or Instagram, or a design you made in Postfjord, into an ad. You pick who sees it, how much money per day and for how many days. Postfjord shows the most it can cost before you press Start the ad.
Meta charges the card in your own Meta ad account. Postfjord never charges for ads, never sees your card and never gets a share of what you spend.
Connect your Meta ad account
An owner of the workspace does this once.
- Open Channels. At the bottom, press Connect Meta ad account on the Meta ad account card. You can also press Advertise on a post and connect from there.
- Facebook opens in a new tab. In the Postfjord app on your computer or phone, it opens in the same window instead and brings you back when you are done. Sign in and leave every box ticked.
- Facebook sends you to a Postfjord page. It says which Facebook account you signed in with, and lists your ad accounts with their currency and business. It also says if one has no card.
- Press Use this one on the ad account you want.
Is that not your Facebook account? Close the page and press Connect Meta ad account again. Finish in the same browser where you pressed Connect. A page opened anywhere else cannot pick an ad account.
No ad account in the list? Make one in Meta Ads Manager and add a card there. Then press Check again.
Need to give Facebook a new yes, for example after a box was left unticked? Press Connect again on the Meta ad account card. You do not have to disconnect first, and your ads keep running.
Ads are always paid in the ad account's own currency. Postfjord shows that currency and never changes it.
Advertise a post
- Open a published post from Posts or the calendar and press Advertise at the top. In Posts you can also press the megaphone button on the post.
- If the post went to both Facebook and Instagram, pick which one to advertise.
- Goal: pick More people see it or More visits to your site. A Facebook post sends visits to the link in the post, so a Facebook post without a link can only use More people see it. An Instagram post asks for the link to your site.
- Answer Is this ad about housing, jobs, credit or politics? You must answer. Meta has extra rules for housing, jobs and credit: the ad shows to all adults in the place, and you cannot pick ages or interests. Postfjord does not run political ads. Use Meta Ads Manager for those.
- Who: pick one of three groups.
- People in a place: type a city and pick it. Choose Near the city with a distance from 17 to 80 km (at least 25 km for housing, jobs and credit), or the whole country. Pick ages, and up to 5 interests if you want. - People who know you: people who liked, commented on or messaged your Facebook Page or Instagram account in the last year, in the place you pick. Postfjord makes this group in your ad account the first time you pick it. Meta asks you to accept its rules for custom audiences once in Ads Manager; until then Postfjord shows Meta's words and you can pick another group. - Let Meta find people: Meta looks for the people most likely to care anywhere in a country. Type a city to pick its country. Meta picks the ages and interests.
Ads about housing, jobs and credit can only use People in a place. Under the choices, Postfjord shows about how many people could see the ad, when Meta has a number.
- Money: type the money per day and pick 1 to 30 days. Meta has a smallest budget per day for each goal, and Postfjord shows it. The most this can cost is the money per day times the days.
- Check: your choices are shown like a receipt, with the most it can cost at the bottom. Press See how the ad looks to open Meta's own preview. The button says the most you pay, for example Start ad · max $70, and the ad account it is paid from sits next to it.
The ad is made switched off and only switched on as the last step, so if something goes wrong halfway, nothing runs and nothing is spent. If Postfjord loses the connection while you wait, press Start the ad again. It finishes the same ad and never makes a second one.
Advertise a design
You can also advertise a design you made in Design, without posting it first.
- Open the design and press Share, then Advertise on Meta. Postfjord saves the design to Media first. A design with several pages advertises the page on screen.
- Pick the Facebook Page or Instagram account the ad runs as. An Instagram account must be connected with Facebook.
- Postfjord sends the picture or video to your Meta ad account. A video takes Meta a minute or two to get ready, and the window checks again by itself.
- Goal: pick a goal, answer the question about housing, jobs, credit or politics, and write:
- Words above the ad: what people read above your design. - Link the button opens: the page on your site. - Button on the ad: Learn more, Book now, Sign up, Shop now or Contact us.
- Who, Money and Check work as for a post.
An ad from a design is shown only as an ad. It is not posted on your Page or profile. Its results are listed under Channels, on the Meta ad account card, with Pause, Resume and Stop.
What it costs
- The most this can cost is a real limit. Meta stops the ad when it has spent that amount, or after the last day, whichever comes first.
- Meta can add tax in some countries, on top of the amount.
- Postfjord has its own limit per ad and per workspace each month, to catch a typo before it costs you. If you hit it, Postfjord says so before anything is made.
- Questions about a charge, a refund or a receipt go to Meta. You find the receipts in Meta Ads Manager under Billing.
Meta checks every ad
Meta reviews each ad before it runs. That usually takes less than a day. While it does, the post shows Ad: Meta is checking it.
Meta often says no to ads that promise weight loss or cures, show before and after pictures, or ask people about their body or health ("Are you stressed?"). If Meta says no, the post shows Ad: Meta said no with Meta's reason as Meta wrote it. Press Open Meta Ads Manager to ask for a new check there.
Follow the results
Every ad shows on the post's own page, above its channels. In Posts, each ad is a small chip on the post.
- Where it stands: Being made, Meta is checking it, Running, Paused, Meta said no or Finished.
- How much it spent of the most it can cost.
- People reached, Times shown, Clicks and Cost per click.
Postfjord asks Meta for new numbers every 30 minutes. Meta's own numbers can change for a day or two after an ad ends.
Pause, resume or stop
- Pause stops the ad for now. Meta stops showing it within a few minutes.
- Resume starts it again until its last day. Meta may check it again first.
- Stop ends it for good. You pay only for what it already spent. A stopped ad cannot start again, but you can advertise the post again.
Pause and Stop always work, also when the workspace is paused or suspended.
When Postfjord pauses an ad for you
- When a workspace is paused or suspended, Postfjord pauses its running ads in Meta. They stay paused when the workspace is back: press Resume on each one.
- Before a workspace is deleted, or before the person who connected the ad account deletes their Postfjord account, Postfjord pauses the running ads.
- If Meta or TikTok does not let Postfjord pause an ad right then, the workspace is not deleted yet. It is switched off, and Postfjord keeps trying to pause the ad. Try again later, or stop the ad first.
- When the person who connected the ad account deletes their account and an ad could not be paused, Postfjord keeps their ad access only to pause it, then removes it. Nothing can start or resume an ad with it: an owner connects the ad account again.
Instagram accounts without a Facebook Page
Meta only lets you advertise an Instagram post through the Facebook Page linked to the account. If you connected Instagram with Instagram only, Advertise tells you how to fix it:
- Open Channels.
- Press Connect on Instagram + Facebook and sign in with Facebook.
- Come back to the post and press Advertise again.
Disconnect the ad account
Open Channels and press Disconnect on the Meta ad account card. Postfjord can then no longer show results or pause ads, so Postfjord asks you to stop running ads first. Your ads and your ad account stay in Meta.
FAQ
Does Postfjord charge for ads?
No. Meta charges the card in your own Meta ad account. Postfjord never handles the money you spend on ads and takes no share of it.
Can an ad cost more than the amount I saw?
No, apart from tax that Meta adds in some countries. Every ad has a total budget and an end date, and Meta stops it at whichever comes first.
Why does Facebook need one more yes?
Your ad account works, but Facebook has not let Postfjord advertise posts from that Page. This happens to an ad account connected before October 20, 2026, or when a box was left unticked in Facebook's window. Press the button in the window, or Connect again on the Meta ad account card under Channels, tick your Page and leave every permission on. Connecting costs nothing and posts nothing. Instagram posts can be advertised in the meantime.
Who does the ad say it is from?
EU law asks every ad shown in the EU to name who it promotes and who pays for it. Postfjord sends the name of the Page or account the ad runs as, and the business that owns your ad account. A personal ad account with no business shows the Page's name for both, never your own name.
Who can advertise?
An owner connects the ad account. After that, owners and editors can advertise posts, and pause, resume or stop ads. Viewers see the results.
Can I advertise a design without posting it?
Yes. Press Share, then Advertise on Meta in the design editor. The ad is shown only as an ad and never appears as a post on your Page or profile.
Who is in People who know you?
People who liked, commented on, saved or messaged your Facebook Page or Instagram account in the last year. Meta builds the group in your own ad account, and Meta decides who is in it.
Can I advertise a post on TikTok or LinkedIn?
Not yet. Advertise works for Facebook Page posts and Instagram posts published through Facebook.
