Academy / Grow an email list from social
Lesson 2 of 5 · 5 min
Where to ask for the email
An offer nobody sees collects nothing. Ask in several places, and ask where people already are, so saying yes takes one step.
Places that work
- The link in your bio. Point it to the signup page for your offer, or put it second after booking.
- A post that asks for a comment. "Comment ROUTINE and I will send it to you." The DM that follows can ask for the email.
- Stories. A story about the offer with "Reply ROUTINE" gets replies from people who never comment on posts.
- The end of a Reel. One line on screen and in the caption: "The full routine is free, comment ROUTINE."
- In real life. A QR code at the front desk, on the receipt or on the packaging. "Scan for the morning routine we teach in class."
- After a purchase or a booking. The confirmation page or the first message after someone books is where they trust you most.
Pick two to start. One on social, one in real life.
Ask for the email inside the DM
On Instagram and Facebook, the smoothest way is a conversation. In Postfjord, a comment to DM automation can ask for the email before it sends the link:
- Someone comments ROUTINE under your post.
- They get a DM: "Want the routine? Reply with your email and I will send it, plus one short email a week with a new stretch."
- They reply with their address. Postfjord checks it for typos like gmial.com and asks again if it looks wrong.
- The address is saved on the contact, and the automation sends the link.
Switch it on with Ask for their email in the DM on the last step of the wizard. The same step works in a story reply automation and in a link or QR code automation, so the QR code at your front desk can start the same conversation.
Say what they are signing up for
Tell people what they get and how often, in the same sentence as the ask: "plus one short email a week with a new stretch". Someone who knows what is coming opens it. Someone who is surprised by it unsubscribes, or marks it as spam, which hurts every email you send after.
Try it now
Write the DM that asks for the email: what they get now, what they get after, and how often. Two sentences. Then press the button to build the automation around it.

Where do people trust you most?
Show the answer
Right after they bought or booked. The confirmation page or the first message after a booking is a good place to ask.
In a Postfjord comment to DM automation, how do you collect the email?
Show the answer
Switch on Ask for their email in the DM on the last step. Postfjord checks the address for typos and saves it on the contact before it sends the link.
Why say how often you will email, right when you ask?
Show the answer
Someone who knows what is coming opens it, someone surprised by it unsubscribes. Surprise leads to unsubscribes and spam reports, and those hurt every email after.
