Lesson 2 of 5 · 4 min

Plan the month from the goal

Set how often you post, give each topic its share, and check that every pillar helps the goal before you fill the calendar.

A plan starts from the goal and works backward. If the goal is email subscribers, a month of nice photos with no way to sign up will not get there. This lesson sets the plan on the Strategy page. Writing the posts and filling the calendar is covered in Plan a month in an hour.

Does each pillar help the goal?

Open Strategy and look at Content pillars. For each one, ask: "Does this give people a reason to do the thing in my goal?" For a roaster that wants email subscribers:

If you do not have pillars yet, Pick your content pillars, the first lesson of Plan a month in an hour, shows how.

Set the shares

  1. In Strategy, give each pillar a Share of posts. The shares should add up to 100%. If the total turns red, press Even out and adjust.
  2. Give the biggest share to the pillar closest to the goal. A common split is 40, 30, 20 and 10.
  3. Under Rhythm, set Posts per week for all channels together. Pick a number you can keep in your busiest week, not your best one.
  4. Press Save.

One ask in the mix

A goal needs a next step in some of your posts. Add a clear one, like "Join the list, link in bio", to about one post in four. The rest give something away: a tip, a story, a result. A feed that only asks gets tuned out.

Let Bo plan the week

Switch on Bo plans next week every Sunday in Strategy and press Save. Every Sunday Bo writes next week's posts from your goal, shares and rhythm. They wait for your yes, and only the posts you approve go into the calendar. Nothing goes out on its own. You can also press Plan next week in the Calendar any time.

How you know it worked

Your Strategy page shows a goal, pillar shares that add up to 100% and a number of posts per week. Every pillar has a reason to be there.

How do you pick posts per week?
