Lesson 3 of 5 · 5 min
One voice in every caption
Your colors make a post look like you. Your words make it sound like you. When you write captions by hand, a tired Friday version of you sounds different from a fresh Monday version. A written brand voice gives every draft the same starting point.
Four ways to start
- Open Settings, then Brand voice.
- Under How do you want to start? pick one:
- Write it yourself. Use your answers from the last lesson. This is the default. - Draft from my posts. Needs a connected Instagram or Facebook account. Postfjord reads your recent posts and drafts the profile from how you really write. - Draft from my website. Type your address and press Draft from my website. - A template for your type of business, with [brackets] to fill in.
- Nothing is saved until you press Save.
A draft costs a few cents of your AI budget. Writing it yourself costs nothing.
The fields that matter
- About the brand: what you do, where, for whom. Two or three sentences. This is the only field you must fill in.
- Tone of voice: how you sound. "Warm, short, a little dry."
- Always and Never: your two lists, one rule per line.
- Example posts: two or three posts that sound exactly right. The AI copies these more than anything else, so choose your best ones.
- Standard call to action: the line you end on, like "Order at the link in bio."
Set the language
At the top you can set the language your posts are written in. Until you set one, each draft comes out in the language of your brief.
What stays on
Every text Postfjord writes also follows house rules: no long dashes, at most two emoji, a number or a name instead of an adjective. You cannot turn these off. Your brand voice sits on top of them.
Before the next lesson
Fill in the fields, press Save, then ask Bo for one caption. Read it aloud. Would you say it? If not, add a line to Never or swap an example post, and try again.
Quick check · 3 questions
Check what stuck
Which field has the biggest effect on how drafts sound?
Show the answer
Example posts. The AI imitates your example posts, so pick posts that sound exactly right.
A draft comes back in a tone you dislike. What is the best fix?
Show the answer
Add a rule to Never, or swap an example post, and draft again. The brand voice is something you improve once, and every later draft benefits.
Can you turn off the house writing rules?
Show the answer
No, but you can add your own rules on top. The house rules stay on for everyone. Your Always and Never lists come on top.
