Academy / Turn comments into customers
Lesson 5 of 5 · 6 min
Follow up and measure
A DM with a link is the start. This lesson turns the people who commented into people you can reach again.
Three add-ons worth switching on
All three sit on the last step of the wizard. Open your automation and add them one at a time.
Ask for their email. The person is asked to reply with their email address. Postfjord checks it for typos like gmial.com before it saves it on the contact, and asks once more if it looks wrong. Use it when the thing you send is worth an email address, like a guide or a discount.
Follow up if they do not click. One more message between 30 minutes and 23 hours later, only to people who have not opened the link. "Still want the schedule? Here it is again." It stops at 23 hours because Meta's 24 hour window must still be open.
Ask them to follow you first. The person taps "I follow you" before they get the link, and Postfjord checks with Instagram. Nobody gets stuck: after a few tries it lets them through anyway. Use it when growing followers matters more than speed.
Let Claude answer the questions
People write back. "Is Saturday 9 am still open?" "Do you have parking?" Under Advanced, switch on Let Claude answer follow-up questions and write what it should know: opening hours, prices, parking. Claude answers in one to three sentences in the person's language and never invents prices or dates. When someone asks for a human or complains, the thread is flagged Needs a human in the inbox. Each answer costs about one cent from your AI budget.
The four numbers
Every automation card shows:
- Entered: people who got the first message.
- Completed: people who reached the end.
- Clicks: unique people who opened the link. Hover for the rate.
- Emails: addresses collected.
Read them after a week. Many comments and few clicks means the DM is too long or the offer is not what people expected from the post. Many clicks and few bookings means the page behind the link is the problem, not the automation.
When nothing was sent
Someone who comments twice on the same post gets one reply, not two, and that leaves no trace in the inbox. The same goes for a comment that arrives after the plan's hourly cap is reached: it waits for the next hour in the send log. For people already in a conversation, the thread in the inbox gets a grey line when a message was skipped, with the reason: the 24 hour window had closed, a person on your team was replying, or they wrote STOP. Anyone who writes STOP never gets an automated message again.
You are done
You have an automation on a real post, and you know how to read it. Next, Write posts people stop for helps you get more comments in the first place.
Quick check · 3 questions
Check what stuck
Who gets the follow-up message?
Show the answer
People who have not opened the link yet. It goes out between 30 minutes and 23 hours later, only to people who did not click, while Meta's 24 hour window is still open.
Many comments, few clicks. What is the likely problem?
Show the answer
The DM is too long, or the offer is not what the post promised. Few clicks means people lost interest in the DM. Many clicks and few bookings would point at the page behind the link.
Someone writes STOP. What happens?
Show the answer
They never get an automated message again. An opt-out is for good. Only that person stops getting automated messages.
