Media library

Every image and video you use lives in the workspace media library, under Media in the sidebar.

Add your first image

1. Open Media.
2. Drop an image or a video on the box that says "Drop images or videos here, or click to choose", or click it and pick a file.
3. Wait a few seconds while Postfjord makes the crops. The file shows in the library when it is ready.
4. Click the file and give it a Name and Alt text.
5. In the composer, press Choose media and click it to use it in a post.

You can also upload straight from the composer: press Choose media and use the upload box at the top. The new file is picked for the post as soon as it is up.

Upload

Drop files in the library or add them directly from the composer. Images get crop variants for square, portrait, story and landscape automatically, plus a thumbnail. Videos show their first frame in the library and are ready for publishing as they are. Click a video to play it, with sound, in the details panel.

• A file can be up to 500 MB.
• Images are made at most 1440 px on the long edge.
• A PNG with a see-through background, like a logo, gets a white background in the crops.

Crops for each format

For each image Postfjord makes four crops: square (1x1), portrait (4x5), story (9x16) and landscape (16x9). Each crop is cut around the part of the image that catches the eye, so a face or a product stays in the picture. Click an image and Variants lists the crops it has.

What goes out where:

• Instagram feed posts and carousels use the portrait 4x5 crop.
• Instagram stories and every other platform get the whole image, uncropped.

You do not pick a crop by hand. If the eye-catching part is at the edge of the photo, crop the photo before you upload it.

Alt text and names

Click a file to see its details.

• Name is for you, to find the file again. Postfjord shows the file's own name until you change it.
• Alt text describes the image for people who use a screen reader. Other platforms do not get it from Postfjord today.

Both are saved when you click out of the field.

Add text to an image

Click an image and press Add text to open it in the design editor. Or press Create image to start from a blank canvas. What you make is saved as a new image in the library, and the original stays as it was. See Design editor.

Storage

Each plan has a storage cap. The library shows how much is used. Deleting a media item frees its space; posts that used it keep their published copy on the platform.

When the library is full, a new upload stops with a message saying how much is used. Delete files you no longer need, or move to a bigger plan under Account.

Delete

Click a file and press Delete. Postfjord asks first, since posts that use it lose the attachment:

• Published posts stay on the platform as they are.
• Scheduled posts and drafts that use the file lose it. A scheduled post that still points to it fails with "was deleted from the library" when its time comes. Open it and pick another file.
• Evergreen posts that used it stop coming back.
