Connect your Shopify store with one click, sell your products in DMs, on pages and in posts, and count the orders each DM, email or page brings in.

Connect your Shopify store with one click. Then you can sell your products in a DM automation, on a landing page or your link in bio, and in your posts. Postfjord counts every order that a DM, an email or a page brought in. Buyers who are contacts get the tag Customer, and an order can start an email automation or send a thank you in the DM thread.

Connect your store

  1. In Postfjord, open Settings, Apps, Shopify.
  2. Press Connect with Shopify.
  3. Shopify opens. Sign in if it asks, and pick your store. You never type its address.
  4. Shopify shows what Postfjord may read. Check that it is your store and press Install.
  5. You come back to Postfjord, with the workspace you started in already picked. Press Connect the store.
  6. The card says Connected with your store's name.

Orders from that moment on are counted. Postfjord does not read your older orders. It can only read, so it can never change a product, an order or a customer.

The owner and editors of the workspace can connect the store. Only the owner can disconnect it, or swap it for another store. A store is connected in one workspace at a time: connect it in another one and it moves there.

Start from your Shopify admin

You can also add Postfjord from Shopify. After you press Install there, Shopify sends you to Postfjord.

  1. Sign in to Postfjord.
  2. Pick the workspace that should get the store.
  3. Press Connect the store.

New to Postfjord? Press Make an account. After you sign up, you come back to the same page. Press Make a workspace, fill it in, and you land back with your new workspace picked. Press Connect the store.

You get in right away, without waiting for early access, because you came from your own store. A development store waits for early access like any new account. Shopify gives you about 30 minutes from Install to finish. If it runs out, open Postfjord again from your Shopify admin, under Apps.

Advanced: an app you made yourself

This is for developers and for stores that connected this way before. The card shows Advanced only when your workspace is connected with an app of its own. To use it anyway, open Advanced on the Shopify card. Only the owner of the workspace can do this. It takes about five minutes. An app that also has read_customers from before keeps working. Postfjord no longer needs it.

An app from the Shopify Dev Dashboard

  1. Open the Shopify Dev Dashboard and sign in with the account that owns your store.
  2. Press Create app and call it Postfjord.
  3. Under Access, pick the scopes read_products and read_orders. Release the version.
  4. Install the app on your store.
  5. Open the app's Settings and copy the Client ID and the Client secret.
  6. In Postfjord, open Advanced on the Shopify card. Choose In the Dev Dashboard, type your store's address, paste both and press Connect Shopify.

An app you made in the Shopify admin before 2026

Shopify stopped new apps in the admin on January 1, 2026, but an app you made there before still works.

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Settings, Apps and sales channels, Develop apps and open your app.
  2. Check that it has read_products and read_orders under Admin API access scopes.
  3. Under API credentials, copy the Admin API access token and the API secret key.
  4. In Postfjord, open Advanced, choose In the Shopify admin, before 2026, type your store's address, paste both and press Connect Shopify.

How an order is counted

When someone taps a link in an automation, an email or a landing page, Postfjord adds tags to the link. Shopify keeps the page the buyer landed on with the order, so the tags come back when they buy. The order then counts for that automation, email or page, with the amount.

  • A link in a DM automation also says who tapped it, so the order lands on that contact even when they buy with another email address.
  • Without tags, Postfjord looks for a contact with the buyer's email address.
  • Links to your store from a DM automation always get the tags, also when you turned Link tags off.

An order counts once it is paid. An order paid later, by bank transfer or cash on delivery, counts in the month it is paid. Test orders from Shopify's test gateway show on the Shopify card and never in your numbers.

The dashboard's Results and the monthly report show only the orders Postfjord brought in, together with your Stripe sales if you have both. The Shopify card also shows every order in your store this month, so you can compare the two.

Postfjord counts up to 500 orders a day on the Free plan and 5,000 on a paid plan. On a busier day the card says so, and the orders past that number are not counted. Refunds have a limit of their own, so a busy day of orders never blocks them.

After an order

  • The buyer gets the tag Customer when they are a contact.
  • Email automations that start on a purchase start for the buyer's address, once per order.
  • A DM automation set to start After a purchase sends its thank you in the DM thread.

A refund takes its amount off again. A full refund takes the order off the counts and stops the purchase automation for that order. This also works for an order older than 60 days, which Shopify no longer shows to the app: Postfjord then uses the amount in the refund itself.

Sell a product in a DM

In a DM automation, open the step with your link and press Add a Shopify product. Pick a product, and the link and the button are filled in for you.

  • On Messenger the DM becomes a card with the product's picture, name and price, and a Buy now button.
  • On Instagram the DM shows the name and the price, with the same button.

The button opens the product with your link tags, so an order from it counts for that automation. The steps are in The DM with your link.

Add a product to a post

  1. In the composer, press Shopify product above the post's media.
  2. Search your products, or pick one of your newest.
  3. Press the product.

Postfjord copies the product's picture into your media library and adds it to the post. The product's link goes into the post's link, or at the end of the text if the link is taken. When the post has no own link on your link in bio page yet, the product's link becomes it, so a tap on the post in Latest posts opens the product. That is how a Shop the feed page works.

People cannot tap a link in an Instagram caption. For a post to Instagram, press Add to my link in bio under the link, and the product goes onto your link in bio page. See Put a Shopify product on your link in bio.

The picture counts toward your storage, like an upload. Picking the same product again uses the copy you already have.

Add a product to a page

In the page editor, Add block has Products: a grid of 1 to 6 products, each with its picture, name, price and a button. It works on landing pages and on your link in bio page. Orders from it count on the page's Numbers tab. See Sell your Shopify products.

A Links row and an Image block also have Pick a product.

  • In a Links row it fills the link, and the name when the row has none.
  • In an Image block it copies the picture and links it to the product.

What Postfjord reads and keeps

  • From Shopify to Postfjord: each order and refund from the moment you connect, with the amount, the currency, the page the buyer landed on and their email address. Products when you search them.
  • From Postfjord to Shopify: four webhooks, added when you connect and removed when you disconnect.
  • The email address is used once to find the contact and then thrown away. Postfjord keeps the amount and what sent the buyer. An order that Postfjord did not bring in is kept for about 13 months with its amount only, so a later refund can be taken off. The keys to your store are stored encrypted.

When a customer asks about their data

Your customers can ask Shopify what apps know about them, or ask to be forgotten. Shopify passes that on to Postfjord.

  • Forget me: Postfjord takes that customer's orders off their contact. The order amounts stay in your numbers. The purchases on the contact go, and so does the tag Customer when nothing else they bought is left. The contact itself stays, because it came from your DMs, forms or imports, not from Shopify.
  • What do you have about me: Postfjord looks up the orders it holds for that customer and sends the list to you, the store owner, by email within 30 days.
  • Two days after you remove the app from your store, Shopify asks Postfjord to forget the store. Postfjord deletes the keys, the orders it did not bring in and your store's name, and takes every order off its contact. The numbers it counted stay.

Disconnect

Press Disconnect Shopify on the card. Postfjord removes its webhooks from your store and stops counting. If you connected with Connect with Shopify, Postfjord also removes its app from your store. Orders counted so far stay. If you delete the app in Shopify, Postfjord notices and stops too.

FAQ

Do I need a paid Shopify plan?

Any Shopify plan works, and so does a development store for trying it out.

Who can connect the store?

The owner and editors of the workspace, with Connect with Shopify. Only the owner can disconnect it, swap it for another store, or connect with an app of their own under Advanced.

Can Postfjord change my store?

No. Postfjord asks Shopify for two read scopes only: products and orders. Postfjord cannot change products, orders, customers or prices. From an order it reads the buyer's email address, never their name.

Does it work with a custom domain?

Yes. Links to your own domain and to your .myshopify.com address both count. Connect with the .myshopify.com address.

Why did an order not count for my automation?

The buyer probably reached the store another way before they bought, or the link had no tags. The order still counts for the contact when their email address matches.
