What the plan is based on
LinkedIn is read at work. People open it before the day starts, in the first hours at the desk and in the lunch break. Friday afternoons are quiet, and the weekend is quiet most of all. The planner's rules for LinkedIn follow business hours, Monday to Friday, on your followers' clock.
That makes LinkedIn the platform where time zones matter most. If you are in Los Angeles and most of your followers work in New York, your best hours start at 6 or 7 in the morning on your clock.
Find where your followers work
- Company page: open the page as an admin, go to Analytics, then Followers, and look at the location of your followers.
- Personal profile: open your analytics from your profile and look at the demographics of your followers. Location is one of them.
Type the top places into the planner with their share. If your clients are all in one city, one place is enough.
Use the plan
- Post at the times in the plan for two weeks, on weekdays.
- Answer comments in the first hours. People see a post again when someone they know comments on it.
- Compare the impressions of each post in LinkedIn's analytics. Keep the times that beat your usual.
FAQ
What is the best time to post on LinkedIn?
On weekday mornings, on your followers' clock: before work and the first hours at work, with lunch as the next best. Add where your followers live above to see those hours on your own clock.
Should I post on LinkedIn at the weekend?
You can, but fewer people are at work. The planner gives weekends a low score and only picks one when you ask for more posts than there are good weekday hours.
Is the best time the same for a company page and a profile?
The same rules apply to both. A profile's followers are often colleagues and clients in your own area, so their clock is often your clock.
My clients are in Europe and I am in the US. What then?
Add both places with their share. Europe's morning is the middle of the night on the US west coast, so the planner looks for the hours where the two overlap, like a European afternoon that is a US morning.
